Poll question: Street corner politicking
Just curious...after driving home past legions of folks holding campaign placards (including the candidate and his/her family) and jumping around along the roads here in Tallahassee...and remembering that I never saw this up in NJ...

I was wondering whether this is a southern thing?

Thanks for taking what is basically a rather unimportant poll, but it's keeping me from biting my nails.

1. I've seen it more in warm climates than cold.
Since I've lived almost all over the country, I've seen a lot of "local customs."

2. Maybe it's a southern thing

but it's also a very far north thing, too. That goes on here at several busy streetcorners on election days and a couple of days beforehand. My husband and I will be out tomorrow on the corner of Minnesota and Northern Lights Boulevard in our cold-weather gear with our signs for Diane Benson (for as long as we can stand it in the 10-degree weather. :) )

3. I see them a lot in San Francisco.
Not so much here in Los Angeles.

4. Happening in Columbus
There were a couple dozen Republicans waving campaign signs this morning in downtown Columbus, OH. The group I saw were slowing traffic getting off and on 670. On a good day 670 sucks and this really slowed down traffic. They weren't in the street, but the looking-loos stopped to stare.

A Dem. running for judge has been standing in this same area fairly frequently too.

Maybe it's a midwest and southern thing?

5. Should be jailed.

The self-righeous fuckers have no place distracting traffic.

I don't care if it's for an election, to say how much better Israel is than the rest of the world, how much better the UN is... doing stunts like this only distracts and leads to problems.

And while any driver accidentally running over such a jackass would be fined or jailed, the cretins shouldn't be able to get away with such stupidity. If they were dems, repubs would want them all to be ran over. I am a little less biased; anyone stupid enough to disrupt traffic and cause a major incident should be jailed and fined for disturbing the peace - amongst other things.

I'm kidding.

have misled you. They aren't IN the road...just along the road, on the sidewalks. Although they are definitely distracting.

6. In my town, it's just signs at every intersection
As many as 20-25 on each corner. After the primary, they took them down pretty quick. We'll see what happens on Wednesday.

7. I not only see them
but I've done it as well. In '04, we were all over the place, standing on medians, and other safe places, not disrupting traffic, but still making sure we were visible. I suspect it may happen tomorrow as well, especially since it's supposed to be a nice day.

9. Well...in the west

I see some at the university corner on primary days. I also see anti-invasion folks in down town. We were also invaded by some really vile anti-choice scum with pictures of aborted embroyos and fetuses earlier this year. They were from Wisonsin. Luckily, I wasn't tramatized because on the internet some pentacostal nut kept showing us them when discussing the topic of abortion.
