I have a voting question... |
|
If someone can help I'd appreciate it.
I live in Missouri and my wife just realized that since we were married last year she did not submit her name change to the election board.
My question is can she still vote?
She is really upset about it because she is as passionate about DEM values as I am. I told her just to show up at her polling place with her birth certificate but I don't know if that will do it.

She should be able to vote with no more than a photo ID. However, she should also bring a copy of the Marriage Certificate to the polls as a backup.

13. Go on Freerepublic and post "I love Hillary Clinton" |
|
and talk about how you she'd make a great president. How long will your post last? 2 seconds, I expect. That's because on private forums you have to play by the owner's rules.

15. Funny how privately owned forums are like that, huh? |
|
Strange how your chimpy little president seems to think the entire country is his own private property. I just love it when bushie's little brownshirts try to talk about free speech.

17. I actually think it depends on the state. |
|
I'm trying to remember the process when I worked the polls in NYS.
I think that if she voted under her old name, it didn't matter unless she was challenged and had to show ID. Then if she had ID linking her with her old name, it was fine. For example, some states don't issue a new driver's license, they issue a sticker to tide the driver over until the next regularly issued new license. The poll workers would write her new name in; change of name accomplished.
If she had no sufficient ID to prove she may be Jane Doe now, but she is actually Jane Doe nee Smith, she had to cast a provisional ("affadavit" ballot). On the ballot was a box to explain, if needed. "Forgot to register change of surname after marriage."
She's the same person registered at the same address, I would assume; she's the person registered, and the name is just a marker. In most, if not all, jurisdictions she still has the right to vote.
