I fear Wisconsin will fall to the repukes |
|
I don't post much, but I felt the need to vent a bit before election day.
It seems that no matter where I turn, I see signs screaming at the mindless to vote repuke. Most businesses and many of the grossly oversized houses have them stuck in their lawns, but what's really scary is that most of the few remaining farms I drive by have them. The a-holes at Clear Channel even put up a huge billboard along our major interstate touting how smart it is to vote repuke.
Perhaps it's desperation, perhaps it's because religion has been making a resurgance in my area and the mindless equate repukes with God, or perhaps there are more stupid people living here than I thought.
I hope that my vote actually gets counted. I hope my vote is cast for the correct candidate by the Diebold machine. I hope there are more people with common sense living in Wisconsin than the hundreds of signs would lead me to believe. I hope…
End vent.

I've heard they have a ton of GOP propaganda bullshit around there. It's like freeper GITMO there.
I live in Milwaukee, and I'm not sweating.
From what I've seen, I predict Doyle will win, and the death penalty and the anti-gay marriage thing will be struck down.
Only one I'm concerned about is Bryan Kennedy. Granted, he's got more momentum against Senselessbrenner than any Dem likely ever has. And he got the JS endorsement. Let's hope it works.
Oh, and I'll go out on a limb and say Herb Kohl will win.
Oh, and my precinct (and many others here) use optical scanners with paper ballots. Newver heard of any problems.
In the meantime, check out the Wisconsin forum. Lots of good stuff there.

isn't all that red. Judging by the lawn signs in my neighborhood, Doyle outnumbers Green about 5:1. I know that's not a real indication but there ARE a lot more political signs than in 2004 and I think that can only be a good indication.

7. Come on Badger State!!! |
|
I was born in Wisconsin (as was my father, and grandfather) and I graduated from the University of Wisconsin (as did much of my family). I am saddened and dismayed to think that the state that sent Russ and Tammy to Washington would turn so wrong.
Get out there you cheese-heads, you Packer fans, you Leinie drinkers and keep Wisconsin blue!

but more about the whole country than here in WI. Kohl is of course a shoe in. I think Doyle will be fine. Best of all, Brian Kennedy seems to have a real shot at getting rid of that asshole Sensenbrenner. Of course I thought Kerry would win in 2004 so I'm not necessarily a good judge. But try to keep the faith for one more day and if it goes badly we WI folks can all go get drunk together and then go stock up on bottled water, spam and ammo to prepare for the revolution.

Fighting Irish: I live in Milwaukee and work in Waukesha, so I get blasted by the signs every day. I'm severely out numbered at work. It's crazy.
BeyondThePale: Funny post, I needed the laugh.
I heard Bryan Kennedy on NPR. Besides Russ, he has the most common sense of any politician I've heard. If he makes it in, I hope he can keep his promise of not bowing down to the lobbyists.

16. I don't know if I would be too worried about it. |
|
During the 2004 election season, several of my neighbors were all over me about my Kerry signs and bumper stickers. Our get-togethers were civil, but they were very gung-ho Repug. Every last one of them.
Before I moved out of state, every single one of them had showed up at my house with their hat in their hand, realizing that they had made a huge mistake. Several of them didn't come right out and state that they would vote for Dems during the next election, but most of them did!
Additionally, one of the sons of my nearest neighbor was intent on studying political science and becoming a politician. At that time, he was hard-core Repug. He and I had numerous in-depth discussions about our political viewpoints, to no avail. On the day my wife and I completed the sale of our home, our two families went out for dinner. Once settled around the table, the son announced to all that upon further reflection, he wanted to become a member of the Democratic party. I was really proud of him for using his head.

19. a way to make sure your vote doesn't get swallowed |
|
by a Diebold is to vote absentee on a paper ballot. Obviously it's too late for this election but the process in WI is really simple. If you go to the Wisconsin Dems web site you can download the form and find a link to the correct place to send it.
Here in Waukesha we use the scanners and I feel pretty confident about their accuracy. I wish we had a national standard though. It doesn't seem right that every state does it differently.
