"Democrats tip better than republicans"
At least that is what a lady who waits tables and tends bar at my favorite hangout told me. It's not a surprise really. We know what it's like to actually have to work for a living, so we tend to take care of our own.

1. Seriously, how does she know who's who?
I certainly can't tell by looking at someone. How does she know the difference?

4. It's not that hard.
I waited tables in a small, very conservative rural area, and it just ain't that hard to tell 'em apart, especially when the tip hits the table. The hard core expect more, are more demanding, tend to run you around the restaurant more than necessary, and seem to expect you to be there pretty much for them alone. And the more money they have, the more likely they are to stiff you. Don't get me wrong...I had some fairly conservative folks take very good care of me, but they were regulars, and TRUE republicans, not these neo-con fascists that are in control now.

Our councilman was in with his wife planning a breakfast "meet & greet", and when he left, he laid a REALLY nice tip on me. I commented to our owner that he must be a democrat, and I could see she was kind of taken aback. She wanted to know how I knew, and I told her when a $20.00 tip hits the table for a $12.00 tab, it's a democrat.

They just tip better. And like one of my customers said when I commented on his "Kerry" sticker on his mug, "Hell yes, I'm a democrat...I work for a living!"

15. Don't know about this specific instance, but I do remember reading
about the aftermath of the republi-CONvention in NYC. Everybody from cab drivers to waiters/waitresses complained that the republi-CON delegates were lousy tippers. Stingey cheapskates all - MUCH more into ME than WE.

7. It's pretty easy to tell who is a democrat and who is republican....
in 2004 a coworker and I were working the polls. We made a game out of guessing if the people walking toward us were a republican or democrat. We would know when we offered the sample democratic ticket. I don't remember being wrong even once.

20. How Could You Tell?
Before I owned my own business I usually dressed "corporate". Braces, cuffed pants, designer suits... This was the 80's and 90's ...

Once there were two old guys at the polling station. This was the 88 Dukakis-Bush election. They were guessing party affiliation based on dress... They were wrong...

Now I own my business... I wear long shorts, a t shirt, and flip flops...

I have and those stories are more than likely true. To see the true ugliness of human nature-become a waiter/waitress for a month or two or better yet try it on for years. It ain't pretty.

9. I'm a delivery driver for a downtown restaurant and...
I can say without hesitation that it's generally true. (Not always, but there's a definite trend.)

In 2004, I delivered to some of GWB's "entourage" who were set up in a hotel meeting room. (B*sh had made a brief appearance at some private event nearby.) It was on a credit card, so it was probably being expensed out anyway. The tip was $4 on $80. 5 percent. Ouch.

11. When I was a pizza delivery guy, the best tippers were...
...tradesmen: plumbers, carpenters, electricians, etc. Followed by Giggly Girls at the college (if they were giggling, the tip was usually good. And the College Republicans, at least when it was on their Student Activities Fee tab (but they did make for interesting listening, while I was waiting. Vindictive needled*ck twerps).

17. I tip 15% for good service and 20% for great service.
And I know waitresses who work in a country club for rich elitists who often remark on the low tips given by the chumps that frequent the club (and by chumps, I mean Republicans).

18. I'm not surprised by that
So many Republican policies communicate such a disdain for working people that it would seem like you'd have to think not too highly of such people to be a Republican. Of course, that doesn't explain the millions of working folks who actually vote for the jerks, but I think that generally has more to do with social issues than anything else. There really aren't that many poor and working-class people who vote R because they think "trickle-down" economics really work.

And I know several R's who aren't very good tippers; if they ever worked as waiters they tend to be a little better. Personal experience goes quite a ways in making Repugs more compassionate, it seems. I'm not sure why it's so hard to simply try to put themselves in someone else's shoes, even if they haven't been in similar circumstances, but that seems to be a major problem for most R's.

frickin' cheap some execs are in tipping! Holy crap, I make a fraction of what they make & I would be embarrassed to tears to leave the tips they leave. I once saw an $854 bill so they rounded up & left $46. :eyes:

29. Yes, I do a min of 20% unless the food is cheap... then I do 25%.
If there are more than 4 of us, I generally try to do more if its deserved.

I love tipping large, I like knowing that someone I dont know who, more than likely, has had a shitty day got something "just a little extra" for them.

30. If you want to get beyond politics and get racial,
my people are the worst at tipping because we're a bunch of cheap bastards.

I, of course, am the exception. ;) If I don't have enough for my food and a 15-20% tip, I'll find something cheaper.

41. Without even knowing anything about you, I know who "your people" are...
But I must say, I must have a gift or something, because I still get the good tips from almost everyone because I really do treat everybody the same.

People who know how to tip, but who are sensitive to the "issue" don't pick up negative vibes from me, because there are none based on that one specific "issue," so if they had it in their mind to tip, I get the tip. Often, it's surprisingly generous. Sometimes, they even reach into thier poskets and give me even more than they initially planned. And for that, I'm thankful. And flattered.

31. 3-4%=good tip
Thats what my republican-by-habit father-in-law and his GOP buddies figure is a good tip. I try to avoid going out for meals with him. If I have to I try to go to places I'm not likely to frequent. He grew up in Utah, a bank president's son so it must be genetic. I bet he and his buddies eat a lot of mucus burgers and snot salads.

in most other ways he's a pretty decent guy, mostly votes for Dems these days & definitely in the past 2 election cycles that's why I say he's "republican-by-habit"

34. In my daughter's waitressing years, she observed that

doctors and lawyers were the worst tippers -- and doctors and lawyers tend to be Republican. Our former doctor was one of the absolute worst. He stiffed servers all the time.

Once he came in with his wife and my daughter figured she'd get a better tip. Sure enough, his wife laid out some bills. Then the wife went to the restroom and Dr. Greed started picking up the tip!!! My daughter, hands on her hips, caught his eye and stared indignantly at him until he put the money back on the table. That's my kid!!!
