"Bible Belt" boosts Bush, Republicans

By Matthew Bigg

DUBLIN, Georgia (Reuters) - Retired school teacher Martha Bobbitt thinks President George W. Bush is a good Christian with the right values. If he's gone wrong in Iraq, it won't change her vote.

Opinion polls suggest Bush's Republican Party may lose control of the U.S. House of Representatives and possibly the Senate in national elections on Tuesday, dragged down by the unpopularity of the war in Iraq.

But for millions of Americans, support for Bush runs deeper than the debate over the direction of the war on terrorism and can be summed up by what his backers view as old-fashioned conservative values.

Support for the troops, the president and the war run hand in hand with a deep belief in the Christian faith while Democrats are viewed as lacking the fiber to defend the American way of life under threat from radical Islam.

FULL story at link above.

What values? Obviously she has no children who might be in danger of having to die for Haliburton and lining the pockets of the Rethugs - and that is all that this god damn war is about. Radical Islam my ass.

3. these stories make me want to puke:
"Support for the troops, the president and the war run hand in hand with a deep belief in the Christian faith"

um, no it doesn't. Support the troops - please. Support them by keeping them alive and whole so they can actually do their jobs.

27. I will never understand how supporting a war is "Christian"
but then again, I live in the South and I will never understand why rural Southerners are so happy with living in squalor and ignorance and always being next to last just as long as you can slap the word "Christian" in there somewhere.

5. 'conservatives' is being misused in this article...these are retarded sheep
I know a few real conservatives, and they HATE Bush.

What the Neo-Cons have attempted to do is replace what Conservative used to mean with brainwashed, church going, water brained asshats who would vote for Bush if he molested and killed their own children in front of them.

This Martha Bobbitt asshat is no one I would want my children learning from. Glad she is retired.

8. This is absolutely pathetic
From the article..."
But for millions of Americans, support for Bush runs deeper than the debate over the direction of the war on terrorism and can be summed up by what his backers view as old-fashioned conservative values."

So, the retired school teacher will vote for Dubya even if he's gone wrong in Iraq. Apparently, old-fashioned conservative values approve of getting thousands of people killed, many more thousand maimed, lives destroyed, and the American taxpayer ripped off for billions of dollars.
Those old-fashioned values mean that a member of Congress can cyber-stalk underage pages of the same sex. It would have been ok with their values if the pages had been female.

A fundamentalist preacher can denounce homosexuality, while deceiving his church, and his wife, to pay for sex with a male escort, and use the escort to buy crack for him. These old-fashioned conservative values strike me as being a bit strange. It also strikes me as strange that a party which ignores the whole Sermon on the Mount, also sees nothing wrong with doing away with lunches for children and the elderly, slashing the benefits for the troops they claim to be loyal to.

Well, if those are "old-fashioned conservative values", then I happily declare myself an up-to-date liberal, who abhors the things these idiots claim to be loyal to. If being liberal was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for me.

16. What is "Christian" about war?
I just don't see it, myself. When Jesus said "love your enemies," I think he probably meant "don't kill them."

21. What conservative values?
Is it the massive deficit spending?

Is it the continuous lying about Iraq and the war we're in?

Is it Bush's past? The alcohol and drug abuse?

Is it Bush's AWOL record in the military?

Pray tell, what are these "old fashioned conservative values" they are talking about?

I'll tell you, if brains were cotton, you couldn't get enough out of these people to make a freakin' tampon for a piss ant!

I've been saying that for years.

These people don't follow the Bible, and they certainly don't follow the words of Jesus Christ.

25. Well, the Bible is full of all sorts of things, good and bad.
Incest, violence, love, injustice, contradiction after contradiction -- it's all in there. People have paid waaaaaaaay too much attention to that overrated book for centuries.
