UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - In an effort to toughen a European draft resolution on Iran, the United States wants the text to say that Tehran's nuclear ambitions posed a threat to international peace and security, diplomats said.

U.S. Ambassador John Bolton circulated among a small group a series of amendments, including stronger language on the threat posed by Iran's nuclear ambitions.

Similar wording on a "threat to international peace and security" was included in an October U.N. Security Council resolution imposing sanctions on North Korea after its nuclear test.

Conversely Russia, backed by China, proposed amendments Friday that would soften the sanctions and cut some of them.

1. Yes, can you please issue this edict that Iran is a threat so we can pre-emptively bomb them?
What a pack of assholes.

3. I really feel for you, I am not a fan of either Iran or N Korea I
just get the feeling from watching Bush that he is really unhinged and would not know how to judge the seriousness of any threat real or imagined. I was sad when Gore couldn't take his rightful place and the same with Kerry in 2004, this year I am hoping for the best but I have this nagging feeling that will not go away I am hoping that it is gone tomorrow. Whatever happens the road ahead will not be easy I just hope that it will be guided by someone with true character and ability. Good Luck
