The Colbert Report is NOT funny - saying the "D" beside a name stands for don't vote for them,
the red balloons, the little kids telling everybody to vote Republican.

Not funny and possibly hurtful.

I know Colbert is conservative (Libertarian) and he was at some kind of Bush dinner - they consider he is one of theirs - looks like they are right.

Not sure I'll watch that program anymore.

I wouldn't be surprised if Rove wasn't behind the whole thing. In cose you didn't notice... Bush thanked Colbert after his so-called "insulting mockery" at the Press Club dinner. Obviously this was Bush sending secret code-language messages to the fundy right, This one's okay; you can trust him. Why do you think the fundies are able to not watch him in droves? Obviously they're in on the ruse. Everyone's in on the ruse. No WAY am I sleeping tonight. Bastards probably placed ninjas, Pentacostal Republican robo-ninjas, under my futon.

I can't imagine the bits will be hurtful. This is pure satire, as only Colbert can do it.

Also, Colbert is actually a pretty religious guy. He was getting pretty pissed at Penn Juilette (of Teller) the other night for mocking God, but THAT was sincere.

The Vote Republican so kids get to see a red balloon drop was just goofy, and even he couldn't keep a straight face.

24. I've been saying that for some time...
Colbert and Stewart aren't really around to help 'the cause' any more than 'moderate GOP' (oxymoron, if ever I've heard one). A lot of liberals really worship both of them. I don't... Stewart often attacks Dems when it's simply unnecessary and often even not accurate (like accusing 'both parties' of voter suppression, rather than calling it correctly as GOP out to suppress and the Dems out to challenge the challengers), not to mention when he went after NARAL for running an anti-Roberts ad and Dan Rather for 'Rathergate', not to mention the stupid meme he's been floating around saying that the best reason not to invade Iraq is because we should have invaded Iran instead because of that country's 'links to Al Qaeda'. Meanwhile, Colbert's sarcasm sometimes goes over a lot of people's heads, and doesn't really help.

FYI, I don't believe Colbert is actually conservative... mostly, it's all a joke. I'm not sure of his political leanings, but I know he's just playing a character that could best be described as a parody of Bill O'Reilly. But it's the character that hurts us more often than the actual political leanings.

Don't consider Stewart & Colbert as 'allies' or 'heroes'... they are simply out to profit off of the pain of so many that have suffered under the Bush regime. Their humor, is often, simply inappropriate. Some say that the humor helps relieve the tension, but not when unwittingly, or uncaringly, they basically help Republicans hold on to power.

A study recently said that the shows don't necessarily get viewers into the 'D' column... they simply turn viewers off to the political process all together.

but there it is.

Stewart may be a force to get people more involved and watch other newscasts... but those who simply watch his probably would be tempted to simply give up politics all together.

And you might want to actually *read the study* before drawing your conclusions.

64. Nope.
Never did. And Colbert absolutely nailed him.

I know other people who don't get Colbert, who don't think he's funny, and these are some liberal friends of mine who are not normally humor-impaired. I cannot figure out why some people don't get him, because to me it's so hilariously obvious.

The Word is the most brilliant thing on TV these days.

And I understand he can't get Congressmen to sit for him, which is why the Know A District segment has disappeared. Although I didn't really care for that one much. Felt it was a little sophomoric.

57. On his Comedy central show or in a REAL interview?
I heard him say on 60 minutes that he doesn't allow his kids to watch the show on CC, because he can't explain to them how he says things he doesn't believe in ... doesn't want them to think he is a liar.

If you heard it on his CC show or when he was appearing as that character, it's part of act.

Colbert is as liberal as the day is long.

75. WHAT????
Telling people to vote Republican so the kids can see the balloons... in other words, pointing out that the Republicans have NOTHING else... that's conservative?

(I'll admit, when he started saying "the 'D' beside a person's name stands for..." I thought he might say "demon"; it's the obvious conclusion to that joke, but he and his writers pulled back and just had it stand for "don't vote for them." He could so easily have made it pure Bill O'Reilly but purposely didn't.)

He's a brilliant actor and parodist, so your response is a compliment to him.
