I do not understand why people don't vote; it's such a good feeling, a natural high.

For our 'don't blink, you'll miss it' burg, there was what amounted to a crowd at the town hall. The Union Leader is saying 400,000 Graniteheads will roll out today, pretty good given our overall population.

As always, a gentle process: name check at door (no id required), name check again and pick up ballot (paper), do the thing, name check again and turn in ballot which is put in a plus 100 year old ballot box.

Ordinary people making extraordinary decisions.

Stop and gossip with the Dem sign holders in the parking lot, (no Repugs by the way). I'm on my way back with a jug of coffee for them. The weather's good, but it's chilly.

Voting isn't just a natural high, knowing you're supporting your party/beliefs. To me, it's a reminder of how radical a concept it is. I get caught up in how it must have felt for other people breaking out of caste/class systems. Knowing that your voice has as much weight as the richest, most powerful person in your area.

Somehow a lot of Americans have lost sight of this. It makes me feel sad for them. It was nice when I was at the polling place, to look around and to know that other people care, even if their opinions are different from your own.
