170. KY-04 is a horrible loss
180. KY-04 (Toss) Geoff Davis Inc. (R) DEFEATS Ken Lucas (D)

Kentucky's fourth congressional district race has been a tight one with lots of negative ads, on both sides.

With 428 of 575 precincts reporting Election night, incumbent Republican Geoff Davis had 48% of the vote (69,018) while Democratic challenger Ken Lucas had 47% of the vote (68,467) and Libertarian Brian Houillion had only five percent of the vote (7,066).
-----------------------------------------------------------

Davis is the scumbag who sponsored The bill HR 5295. The 'Student and Teacher Safety Act' in order to strip search the little kiddies.

He's also a big outsourcer, anti-union, business automation corporatist, and pro police state thug.

39. WOOOOHOOOOO!!!!
Huge...ginormous....hugantic!!!!

Seriously, Northrup is one of the least bad republicans I know of, but she is far too inline with Bush to stay. Not to mention that her ads were pretty nasty. I wish her the best in her personal life, and am thrilled to see Yarmuth taking the seat!!!!

I will be leaving my Yarmuth sign up in my yard for a gooood loooong time.

Johnson ran a nice, grandmotherly campaign? WTF? Did she get that from Johnson's grandchild or something? Johnson ran a vicious, nasty & deceitful campaign. Even Republic radio host Ray Dunaway on WTIC thought Johnson was over the top in her negativity.

Does anyone consider we winning the House a "real victory"
Yes it's great the we tookover the house but the Democrats were excepted to have over a boatload of other seats and will come up short doing take in point the following seats:

-Katherine Harris old seats which was won by repuke Vern Buchanan(Florida)

-In Minnesota we were expected to take over Mark Kennedy's old seat but was kept by repuke nutcase Michele Bachmann

-In New York we were expected to take Tom Reynolds seats but Jack Davis came up empty.

-Illinois was a big loss cause everyone expected Tammy Duckworth to win over the seat vacated by repuke Henry Hyde, but peter roskam won

And in Ohio, lots of people expected Jean Schmidt, Deborah Pryce and Steve Chabot to lost but they actually may pull it off

I don't know, I expected the Dems to do better, espically in Ohio and Illinois.

This was one of the races I hoped might be an upset in our favor, because it sounded as if a good number of Republicans saw how extreme Sali was. But, like my own dear home state, I should have remembered that Idaho has its share of nutjobs that like to elect their own kind. Oh well, it is at least quite close for an Idaho House seat and we put up a good fight.

173. CT-02: As of 7:52 AM this morning, D-Courtney up by 220 over Simmons
At 7:52 AM this morning (EST), Democratic challenger Joe Courtney was up by approximately 220 votes over incumbent Republic Rob Simmons in the 2nd district here in Connecticut. I think they said on WTIC AM 1080 that 145 of 149 precincts had reported results and this will definitely trigger the automatic recount.

This district is always tight - back in the early 90s, then Democratic incumbent Sam Gejdensen won by 2 votes over Republic challenger Ed Munster (yes, that was his real name)

McNerney topples Pombo in close House race

By Hank Shaw and Zachary K. Johnson

November 08, 2006 6:00 AM

Rep. Richard Pombo met his electoral end at The Waterloo on Tuesday night to a little-known wind energy consultant from Pleasanton.

Jerry McNerney declared victory at 12:15 a.m. today, leading 52.3 percent to 47.7 percent with 90 percent of the precincts reporting, including 100 percent from San Joaquin County.

"We won this thing. It's ours," he said amid cheers.

Pombo left The Waterloo Inn, where he had gathered to watch election results, just before midnight, not yet conceding defeat.

185. This is what NPR is reporting
http://www.npr.org/news/specials/election2006/results/

There are 228 Dem seats (includes 27 pickups, but two incumbent Dem. seats have not yet been called), 194 Rep seats, 13 undecided.

Of the 13 undecided, 6 have reported 100% of precincts, with 2 Dems leading (CT 2 and PA 8) and 4 Dems losing (OH 2, OH 15, PA 6, NC 8)

Of the other 7 seats, it looks like Dems will hang on to their two incumbents (GA 8, GA 12), but it doesn't look good from what I can see in NM 1 and WY. It looks like TX 23 will be a runoff, WA 8 hasn't counted many of their votes for some reason, and I can't tell what the other undecided seat is according to NPR (Skinner must have listed it as a Republican seat).

184. The 9 percent are definitely strong for Nancy
The only 28 precincts in the entire state not yet being reported are in Pontiac, a heavily African American city where Nancy campaigned her heart out. She has a huge following there. From what I have heard, however, they only had a 30 percent turnout -- 11,000 for Nancy and 2,000 for Joe. This is in contrast to most of the rest of the district where over 60 percent was very common in most cities.

It's still a mystery why these results have not been reported. It's also a bit fishy that they had 11,000 votes registered at 4 pm and 13,000 when the polls closed. Voter suppression is common in Pontiac and they had problems yesterday. I have heard that people were still voting at 10 p.m.

198. Chaos and voter suppression in Oakland county (Pontiac included)
Edited on Thu Nov-09-06 02:49 PM by pat_k
Hi again SharonRB! You alreaady saw the following in an earlier thread, but for others who might be reading this thread, I'm repeating here

-------------------------
Excerpts from http://www.theoaklandpress.com/stories/110806/loc_2006110832.shtml

Oakland County

. . Some ran copies on their own photocopiers.

Others zipped over to a local Kinko's to pump out more. All around Oakland County, election officials scrambled Tuesday as precincts ran short of ballots. . .

In Oxford Township, workers ran out of ballots in Precincts 1, 7 and 4. . .I've been standing in line with about 75 to 80 people and this is the third time today (theyÕve run out of ballots), he said. We'll vote, but this isn't right.

How can you run out of ballots three times in one day ... not to mention the poor people outside with children standing in the rain, and can't come in because there is no room.

Pontiac

. . .After waiting more than two hours for ballots to arrive, Matt Jones, 28, and Karena Herdell, 27, laid on the gymnasium floor and fell asleep, instead of leaving like many others.

I don't have a problem with the long lines because at least people are voting, Herdell said. But for this to be happening is just ridiculous. How do you run out of ballots?

One election worker, who wished to remain anonymous, said representatives with the city clerk's office continuously said they were bringing in more ballots, but never showed up. . .

pat_k: Ms. Hardell should be concerned when the barrier to voting is too high for so many of her neighbors. Perhaps you can guessimate the number of people who leave a line, but you can never know how many went away when they saw the lines or never came because they heard about them.

Related post (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=2638166&mesg_id=2653666">link)

We know several precincts ran out of ballots. We know the shortage caused lines. We know voters who intended to vote did not because of the problems.

The question is not whether or not the problems would have "changed the result." A remedy needs to be demanded on behalf of every registered voter in every precinct that was affected. No matter how large the margin between the candidates, the precincts that had problems need to be identified.

The only way we are going to end such corruption (intentional or not) is to refuse to accept it -- demanding a remedy is one way we can "just say no."

The simplest way to remedy failures that discourage/prevent voters from voting is to designate a date and convenient location where people from the problem precincts (the ones who have not already voted) can come in and cast their vote. (There are a variety of ways such a remedy could be demanded -- e.g., could petition election officials or find a creative attorney to make a motion in court.)

Publicly demanding this type of a remedy is likely to prompt a chorus of objections. The debate is on our ground, so the more public the better.

When "special treatment" in the form of lengthy delays, misdirection, or failed equipment is brought to the public's attention, the establishment response goes something like this:
"That's the way it goes. Not fair. Don't like it. But have to accept it. Can't prove it would've changed the results."

Those who argue that we must accept "special treatment" voters are subjected to during an election expose their own hypocrisy when they attempt to argue that we must reject a remedy that offers "special treatment" to those voters after the election.

Why shouldn't the "price" for imposing intolerable barriers be to give those who were targeted (whether or not they were targeted deliberately) a completely unfettered opportunity to vote? The answer to the standard objection goes something like this:
"The remedy is a necessary consequence. That's the way it goes. You seem to be happy to accept the problems. Even if you think the solution is "unfair" why wouldn't you be as happy to accept it?"

Claims that the remedy is unnecessary because it "it won't make a difference" are easy to deal with. Perhaps the numbers are such that the additional votes cast won't change the result. So what? Providing the remedy creates a critical precedent. Instead of giving lip service to "making sure it doesn't happen" you are creating consequences and incentives for ACTUALLY "making sure it doesn't happen again." In the process, it shows the voters who were so poorly served that their election officials are actually committed to serving them. It makes it clear that the voters are the "clients" in this.

An election that has been corrupted by barriers to voting that are correlated with racial, socio-economic, or partisan status is not a fair election. It doesn't matter whether the discrimination was intentional or unintentional. In absence of a remedy the results of a discriminatory election must be rejected on principle: ("Rejection" can take many forms -- even something as simple as what the AP did in 2000 -- they have never "called" the Florida Presidential election.)

The notion that if the margin of victory reflected in the reported results is of sufficient magnitude we are forced to dismiss violations of the right to vote is Un-American and morally repugnant. Claims that insufficient numbers were disenfranchised to change the outcome must be rejected on principle -- American principle v. Fascist principle.

(BTW, when the processes or the results of an election are suspect, most of us believe we need to prove "it" (whatever it is) "changed the results." In fact, we need to figure out ways to put the burden of proof http://january6th.org/stop_stolen_elections_now.html#notion3">where it belongs -- on the state.)

183. Dems keep LA-02 -- Runoff to be Jefferson (D) v. Carter (D)
Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 11:42 AM by pat_k
Thought it might be worth nothing that since the top vote getters are Dems, this Undecided race will stay Democratic, whatever the results of the Runoff.

. . .U.S. Rep. William Jefferson was forced Tuesday into his first runoff since winning the 2nd Congressional District seat 16 years ago. He will square off against state Rep. Karen Carter in what's likely to be a bruising campaign between the two New Orleans Democrats. . .

196. Sadly, that's incorrect. Darcy lost.
You have the King County result. Pierce put Reichert over the top. Here are your totals:

Darcy Burner
Democrat 74,861 49.1027%
Dave Reichert
Republican 77,597 50.8973%

Darcy still clings to a small lead. I don't believe they're planning on updating the totals till after 6 PM Pacific.

200. Darcy's back in front? Cool!
I would think that most of the absentte ballots would be in by now, if they were mailed Tuesday at the latest. Hopefully we will know the outcome either by Friday, or Monday at the latest. I hate this waiting, but I do want all the ballots counted.

205. If you look at the King County/Pierce County breakdown, you can
see that it's Pierce County that is mucking up the works. The are voting for Reichert far more than for Burner. King County, on the other hand, voted Burner over Reichert.

He's ahead 6,000 votes, and I'm optimistic, but tens of thousands of votes here were early ballots and they haven't all been counted yet.
