Logistical problems have apparently rendered me unable to vote. |
|
Edited on Tue Nov-07-06 09:11 AM by seawolf
The post office screwed up and didn't deliver my absentee ballot, and I'd asked for it too late to be able to fix that. I'm at college with no car (hell, I even asked to borrow my roommate's, but he said no), my dad can't come get me, and the county Election Commission won't fill out a ballot on my behalf, even if I give them my voter ID #.
The real annoying thing? It's only an hour to my precinct, but it might as well be twelve.
No vote for me this year. DAMN!
On the bright side, at least the Katherine Harris/Bill Nelson race is so hugely in Nelson's favor that my missing out won't risk putting that batshit crazy bitch in office.
Update: Hillsborough County Democrats are seeing if they can get someone to drive me. They haven't gotten back to me yet.

1. You can't get a cab, or hook up with a political minded classmate who can give you a ride, |
|
in return for dinner or something?

5. Yeah those were my thoughts |
|
Any buses? Cabs? Friends with cars?
You could even hitchhike. Make a sign that says "need a ride to get home to vote" and I bet you 10 bucks somebody picks you up.

7. I don't have enough disposable income for a two-hour round-trip cab ride. |
|
I hadn't thought of asking a classmate for a ride, but I don't know enough people in my classes for that to be valid...let me check something, though.

If I have to risk dying to vote, I'd prefer it actually be in a situation where my death would MEAN something.

14. Is there a Democrat student group on campus? |
|
Check with them first for a ride. If that's a no go, call the local Democratic party - still a no go, call the campaign HQ of local DEmocratic candidate. Still a no go - call state Dem party. Where there is a will, there is a way. If all else fails, call everyone you know in your home town and see if someone will come get you. When I was away at school, I used to drive people all over the state on Election day, so I know there are people out there who do this.

I know in England, a lot of Labour voters always ask the Conservative Party to provide them with transportation on election day. Twisted - but brilliant !! :-)

But the race is like 20-30 points in his favor. I don't think the repugs can hack it that much.

Is there public transportation in your town? Surely, if there is, they run by the college. Can't cost more that a buck or two.
