MSNBC: FBI is now looking into possible voter intimidation in VA

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2006/11/07/11322.aspx

From MSNBC's David Shuster

Richmond, VA -- Jean Jensen, Secretary of the Virginia State Board of Elections, confirms that the FBI is now looking into possible voter intimidation in the US Senate race between Republican incumbent George Allen and Democrat Jim Webb. Jensen says state officials alerted the Justice Department yesterday to several complaints of suspicious phone calls to voters that attempted to misdirect or confuse them about election day. She adds she has now been contacted by FBI agents. The FBI in Richmond refuses to comment.

In a written statement issued by the Webb campaign, state Democratic party counsel Jay Myerson says he believes that Republicans are behind an orchestrated effort to suppress votes for Webb. Republican officials, including the executive director of the Virginia Republican party, say the GOP and the Allen campaign are focused on mobilizing voters and have not discouraged anyone from voting.

2. I used to trust the Feebies. not under gonzales, though.
In fact, I used to work with a couple of ex-agents, and was friends with a couple of active agents. Even they don't trust their organization anymore.

So, although I am glad that they are investigating, how can we trust their final decisions?

7. Well Ya Gotta Give It To Jim Webb... I'm SOOOOO Glad I Gave
him money even though I live in Florida! Good for him, calling Macaca and Repukes out BEFORE the election. It would be GREAT if Webb wins outright to avoid a protracted legal battle, but at least he's stuck his boot in the door and stood up to the cheatin' Repukes!

Oh, Please Virginians... get your Grooooooove ON! Vote For Webb!!!

10. Every one was talking about how great the repuke GOTV drive
is/was in the last 72 hours before the vote. They don't have any GOTV drive. Repukes have a suppress the vote and intimidate the voter (especially minorities who vote Democratic) drive in the final 72 hours. This has always been what Rove does and the corporate media pretends it's their voter drives.

11. Robo Calls and Voter Intimidation
I voted this morning for Jim Webb and I truly believe that he will win. I don't understand why the repubs are trying to intimidate voters in Arlington because Arlington is the most democratic county in the entire state. I guess they didn't look at a map. If the repubs are guilty I hope they lock them away for a long time.

Edited on Tue Nov-07-06 10:53 AM by cobaindrain
remember they have no ground game in Virginia (considering his father was a football coach, macaca should know better) the only thing they can do is cheat now.

National voting reform is a must , as is a concerted effort by the authorities to bring the perpetrators of vote fraud and voter suppression to justice.

"This message is for Timothy Daly. This is the Virginia Elections Commission. We've determined you are registered in New York to vote. Therefore, you will not be allowed to cast your vote on Tuesday. If you do show up, you will be charged criminally."

22. This has gone WAY too far
The stakes are extremely high for Bush and the GOP to keep the Senate. So dirty tricks, disenfranchisement of voters, and other types of voter suppression are in their playbook. Under those circumstances, if per chance Allen wins in a squeaker, we can chalk this one up as being stolen. And before any certification of winner takes place, a full and complete FBI investigation should certainly take place.

25. George "Hillbilly Bear" Allen must be a Democratic spy
That's the ONLY rational explanation for the way he's blown a surefire Republican Senate seat.

Thanks, George!!!

30. You flatter him. How a character like that ever got to be a US
senator doesn't reflect too well, either on his neck of the woods (it's not "Deliverance" country is it?), or on the character of your Senators. He's got to be atypical, but maybe not that much.
