3. eh, pretty much the same idea
I went absentee this year, so I voted over a week ago. But normally around here, it's a short wait at the fire station, and an x-marks the spot ballot.

Washington State and Oregon both have vote by mail, although Oregon is completely vote by mail. And since then, voter participation has increased and it's cheaper.

On edit: Plus it has the bonus of no touch screens and there is a real paper trail.

Ie at the same machine, one after the other, together. I thought it was illegal, but guess not. Now all those husbands and wives with a bitchy/controlling spouse might not vote their consience.

13. Paper and optical
One thing I like about this type is that if you make an odd mark on the ballot, it gets rejected and you vote again. It is a silly ballot though where you have to complete the arrow by filling in the space in ink.

45. That WAS a good one
I wasnt too impressed with the way it was worded on the ballot, though.

If I hadn't realized that it was the TABOR question, I might have thought it sounded kind of reasonable.. until I really read it closely, that is.

That's really my only fear about it..that people might not realize what they're voting for.

Still, I dont think its going to pass.

39. Paper.
There were two separate halves of an arrow (<- and --) next to each candidate. You used a pen to connect the two sides of the arrow that was next to your candidate.

I was relieved, actually--thought I'd have to use a machine. One benefit of living in an impoverished rural area, I suppose. :)

Let's hope the Dem-controlled House can move forward on some election reform. We need (non-electronic) standards, badly.

Edited on Tue Nov-07-06 07:14 PM by Faye
it was the same here in Riverside as it was in Westville when I voted the last election...they are definately electronic, but they are not touchscreen. they are pretty 'wide', and you press a soft white button that turns green with an 'x' next to the person you choose. when you are done doing this, you hit a red button at the bottom on a kind of panel that submits your votes. wtf are these things called? they are kind of a combination between the lever kind, and electonic...
