The Federal Bureau of Investigation is looking into the possibility of voter intimidation in the U.S. Senate race between Sen. George Allen, a Republican, and Democratic challenger James Webb, officials told NBC News.

State officials alerted the Justice Department on Tuesday to several complaints of suspicious phone calls to voters who attempted to misdirect or confuse them about election day, Jean Jensen, Secretary of the Virginia State Board of Elections, told NBC’s David Shuster.

Jensen told NBC that she had been contacted by FBI agents. The FBI in Richmond refused to comment.

1. BradBlog broke this one two days ago
because they were pulling this shit in NM, an alert and highly suspicious person recorded a couple of the calls, and an injunction was obtained. I can't tell you if the calls have stopped (my # is unlisted and unpublished). It's unlikely the injunction has done any good if the calls originate out of state.

Folks, I can't begin to tell you all the ways this is illegal. The perps will go either be hit with large fines or go to jail.

However, in the meantime, it's a desperation tactic and it will work on some dumb people who will obligingly go to the wrong place and then just forget the whole idea.

Face it, the Repugs have become the personification of anti Americanism.
