Conservative violates FCC rules, runs Republican ad on Emergency Broadcast System

(found at DailyKos)

This is a test of the Emergency Alert System: Vote for Dick Mountjoy!

In an apparent violation of FCC rules, conservative talk radio station KFBK 1530 AM in Sacramento transmitted a paid political advertisement to an unknown number of other stations in the area, using the federal Emergency Alert System (EAS), thus automatically forcing the ad onto the stations' airwaves. This is according to a press release issued today by KDVS-FM, a non-commercial community station in Davis that received and inadvertently aired the transmission.

The advertisement is for Richard "Dick" Mountjoy, the Republican running against incumbent Sen. Dianne Feinstein. Immediately following the Mountjoy ad is a commercial for HMS Capital Loans.

i really like her--not so much but i'm hoping she was being truthful about what she said in her last commercial, you know the one her granddaughter? She said "bringing the troops home from Iraq", i hope she meant that.

12. This is why only non-commercial stations should originate EAS.
The system is easily abusable. All someone has to do is push the wrong button (which is probably what happened here, I can't see them using dirty tricks for someone who has below zero chance of winning, if this was an ad for Ahnuld or a House Repuke, I'd be suspicious) and commercial programming goes out over non-comm airwaves.

Something similar happened in Baton Rouge a few months ago where people watching children's programming on LPT got treated to the audio from shock jock Kidd Kraddick's morning show from the CC-owned top 40 station there.
