They are already screwing with the vote here in KC
I just listened to local radio and they had people calling in to report what is happening at polling locations all over the area. The folks from Kansas reported no problems. Missouri was a completely different story.

Some of the problems:

Voters at one polling location were given the wrong ballot. A woman who was running for office came to vote and saw that her name was not on the ballot. So she complained and they changed the ballot. Another voter asked what they were going to do about the voters who had already cast ballots. The poll worker said "It's been taken care of" When pressed for more info, she repeated (in less than kind voice) "It's been taken care of".

Voters at another polling location in a low income area showed up to vote and discovered their poll had been moved many blocks away. The reporter said these were elderly voters who had walked to the poll to vote and it was too far for them to walk to the new location. So they walked back home. The reporter went to the new poll and reported this and the workers said all voters were mailed postcards telling them their polling location had been changed. He said well obviously not everyone got that card.

My friend called me at 7 this morning to tell me she had asked for a paper ballot and the poll workers told her they had ballots but no machine to read them. So she had to vote on the touch screen machine. I called the election protection name I had and was told the touch screen machines read the paper ballots, there is no separate machine for this.

Two of my co-workers were told there were no paper ballots available at their polling locations.

Another co-worker reported that she had been asked for ID when she voted this morning. She said 'but I thought that law was thrown out' and the poll worker said 'show us ID or don't vote'.

There have already been reports of vote flipping in the St. Louis area by advance voters.

Based on all this nonsense, I am making this prediction: Talent will steal the vote from McCaskill. But I think the stem cell issue will win, the polls show too large of a spread for it to be stolen.

1. I live across the river from St Louis
on the Illinois side, and things where I voted seemed pretty smooth. But Blagoyevich should win in a walk, and we don't have a controversial issue like Amendment 2 on the ballot. Hope things work out for McCaskill.

Good luck!!

2. So much crap.
The touch screen machines DO NOT scan the paper ballots. There IS a seperate machine for them. The ID issue has been deliberately muddied. Even SOS Carnahan got tripped up by it today. "It's been taken care of?" Unacceptable answer. Who the fuck do these people think they are?

6. I was asked for ID in Missouri.
It was no problem, I had my driver's license and student ID, but I was fairly sure that the measure had been struck down.

13. That wasn't any election official
it was the Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan.

Robin is the daughter of Senators Mel and Jean Carnahan. Sen. Mel died in a plane accident in 2000 before the election took place. Mel Carnahan won the election anyway by beating John Ashcroft. Jean took his Senate seat but lost to Talent in a special election in 2002.

10. You will need an ID in Missouri, just not a photo ID
just not a Photo ID, like they were trying to require in the law that was struck down.

A utility bill, or paycheck that shows your name and address is acceptable.

12. Hubby just came home and said NPR is reporting voting problems in MO
Lots of them. The head of the election board just went to a polling place to tell the workers to stop asking for picture ID. They were turning voters away!!
