Voting irregularity in Georgia...help!
I'm in southwest Georgia, an area usually friendly to Democrats. Someone I work with went to vote in her precinct this morning, and the polling place had been moved: no sign, no mailed notice, nothing. Election officials claimed that they thought the building had been torn down, and sent someone out with a sign telling where the new polling place was.

Meanwhile, there is no telling how many people didn't get to vote because of it.

I've seen numbers on the front page telling who to call to get voting problems fixed. This one is already fixed as well as it can be. But the problem is that election officials failed and no notices were sent out. Who do we report this to? Secy of State? NAACP?

Thanks for your help,

DB

4. CB, are you in Barrow's district?
How do you think it will go for him?

I vote absentee in the 8th District and I'm not sure Jim Marshall will hang on to his seat. I'd hate to see these two guys go down (for the sake of a Democrat representing the 8th, I overlooked Marshall's yes vote on the torture bill but I thought long and hard before I voted for him).

6. Barrow got redistricted out of Athens and had to move to Savannah

in order to run again. He's up against Burns who he beat in 2004 in the old district. John voted yes on some issues that I would not have expected him to vote for but, he has to play to a rural, white conservative base in addition to city dwellers and students.

How are you doing? Will you be in Georgia anytime soon? I'd love to meet you for a beer in Athens!
Cheers! :hi: CB

10. I'll be over next summer, but not sure exactly when.
School doesn't let out in the UK until the third week of July so I think it'll be right after that and we'll be staying until the end of August. My dad lives in Oglethorpe County and he's not very well (congestive heart failure) so I want to spend time with him while I can.

Athens is my haven when I can't stand the fundie-ness anymore - we'll definitely have that beer, and on more than one occasion. I'm looking forward to it.

Did you know that her father was Governor Ernest Vandiver who presided over the desegregation of UGA?

We need to plan a DU meetup in Atlanta for after the elections! I want to celebrate! :toast:

A group of us met in Athens in August and had a great time! We hope that Mike and Kathy Malloy can come to our Atlanta meetup! They chose the venue for the last one and it was awesome! We met at the Graveyard in East Atlanta!

2. Call 1-888-DEM-VOTE
They will be able to give you information on where your correct polling place is.

3. Report this to both the DNC (888-DemVote) & Election Protection (866-OurVote)
Even if they have now taken measures to correct, they MUST be made aware of these incidents wherever they happen - compiling this data may point to future trouble spots that need monitoring.
