The Poll Worker in Jenison, Michigan said I didn't need my voter ID card. |
|
I said why not, you should need it, how do you know who I am. Well you don't need it she said. I asked for the supervisor who said your name is already on the list, so you don't need your ID card, it is only used to point out if you are in the wrong location. I then said how would you know if I were in the wrong location you didn't even look at my voter ID. I just shook my head and went to vote. This is a sad state of affairs, I thought the little old poll worker was going to cry. Our election system is out of control. I will be voting Absentee in the 08 election, it will eliminate the poll worker headache and if you vote in a Diebold state I suggest Absentee in 08.

1. I didn't have to show an ID |
|
I've never had to show any kind of ID to vote. I know the republicans were trying to make it so people had to have a passport or something to vote but that isn't the case now.

4. Why do we need a voter ID card? What is the point? |
|
I could have went in filled out the slip of my neighbor and voted for him. Changed clothes and gone back four or five hours later and voted as myself.

That sure is a lot of trouble to go through to vote one extra time.

24. I don't have to show voter ID in NJ. |
|
Never have. Before I could get in the door, the poll worker called out my name and address to another worker. We went to school together and she's been working on the polls for the past 30 years or so. LOL

7. Same here in Maryland - no voter i.d. required but |
|
from their rolls (now on computer) they do confirm your name, address, birthdate etc...It's pretty thorough and I really appreciate that I don't have to produce i.d.

reg card (always do) and i was able to use d.l. and i think that is a good thing. they had proof who i was, address, and made more convenient. we can use just about anything to prove we are the vote hence no impedement

to play around in between two jobs. None-the-less, I am a registered voter.
I showed my ID (Driver's License).
My address was on the list of registered voters.
I voted.
I hope you don't have a problem with that?

It isn't an "ID card" - it is a reference card so you know where to vote...

10. the Republicans' reasons for wanting voter IDs amount to vote suppression, but |
|
...if I went to vote and found that somebody claiming to be me had already voted, I would be heartbroken.
I'd be happy with somebody just having to present a cable bill or something, but not an official ID to avoid disenfranchising people who don't drive or have a passport, etc. Not all renters receive an electric bill if their utilities are paid, but most have cable bills or bank statements.

11. In Santa Clara County, CA - never needed any sort of card |
|
Now the last several elections I've voted absentee - but back when I used to go and vote in person, all that was required was to sign the register near my name. In other words my name and address were already preprinted, I just had to sign in the spot next to it.
I guess if challenged, they would compare the signature with the signature on my original registration.

|
sorry you think it's so horrible, but I don't - I love this about my Blue Michigan, where we don't try to intimidate voters - sheesh! But then, I've lived in the same small town for 25+yrs., so they KNOW WHO I AM. And my family. So, asking me for my idea would have been VERY offensive.

17. On the surface showing ID sounds good |
|
But in reality, it becomes a tool that the republicans use to disenfranchines voters.
Alot of folks cannot afford id, and many elderly have long since given up their drivers licenses and do not have an official id.
The poor and elderly should be able to vote just as everyone else.

here in chicago, you don't need an i.d.- unless your signature doesn't match the one on file.

19. I've never needed a voter ID card. |
|
I've voted in two different states. Today, all I needed was a form of ID with my signature on it. It didn't even have to be a photo ID, though I used my driver's license. I think that's fine.

20. We don't need ID here |
|
I go in to vote, give my name and they have me sign a sheet next to my name. Then I vote. Works very well.
Lots of people don't have ID. I posted here many times about my elderly mother, who died 3 weeks ago yesterday. She had no ID and no way to get one.
Voter ID laws discriminate against the elderly and the poor.
Be thankful you don't need ID to vote.
