Bush: "Voting is a PRIVILEGE"
I guess it's not our RIGHT anymore?

===

CBNNews.com- President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush voted this morning in the President's hometown of Crawford, Texas.

They cast their ballots at the fire station.

The President said it is a privilege to vote, and he encouraged all Americans to let their voices be heard.

He said "our government is only as good as the willingness of our people to participate in it."

24. At least Caligula had the sense to name his horse as a senator.
Bush named a horse judge to do a man's job instead.

8. That's why they don't believe in the Voter Rights Act....
I believe they want to go back to the good ol' days when only people of "property" were allowed to vote. Women, blacks, and people with apartments need not apply.

Oh, ok. So it was the Voting Privileges Act and not the Voting
RIGHTS Act that got passed??

Bush, stay out of my town. No telling what I would do if you got within arm's reach.

20. Ah so that explains why they keep trying to keep people from voting.
You see, if it were easy to vote then voting would not require such will and determination. Like St. Augustine and temptation, Republicans seek to test the will of the people to vote, forever raising the bar, in order to improve the quality of the vote. Now I understand.

25. That sentiment is common
I think many people don't see the world of difference between a right and privilege.

I don't doubt that Bush thinks lowly of our right to vote. However, since he is not quoted and is paraphrased, I wonder about the accuracy of stating that Bush said "Voting is a Privilege"

It may be the case that the paraphrasing reporter is unaware of the difference between a right and privilege.

29. Oh, a "privilege" eh?
We already know Bush and his Republican crime buddies think voting should be restricted to non-African American males who can pass a literacy test, pay a poll tax, and who own land. How else to explain their vote suppression tactics?
