I thought political ads ended on election day.
I just saw one here for the Republican candidate for Illinois Secretary of State. He has the proverbial snowball's chance in hell of winning.

6. I *think* the rules on this vary by state.
I used to work in TV traffic (scheduling all commercials) and I believe that in some states the ads can only run until midnight the night before election day and in other states they can run through election day. I'm not sure, but I think there are also some states where they can run on election day up until a specific cut-off time.

I don't know any of this for sure (maybe it is the local station that sets the cut-off)?? It's been several years since I worked there, so it's a bit fuzzy. But I DO know that election day ads are legal and ok in at least some places. (We ran them on election day at the WI station where I worked.)
