I am:

...exhausted.

...enjoying an odd confluence of emotions (guarded optimism blended with a low-grade sense of panic) that reminds me of the old definition of an artist: someone who can hold two fundamentally opposing ideas in their head at the same time. :)

I've never been so juiced up in my life. Talking to the voters, getting people out to vote, workin the phones, reactions have been so amazingly positive! This has easily been the longest feeling day of my life.

Things seem to be going our way this time. And the major Democratic players out there seem to have the balls to call out the GOP on their dirty shit. I expect a landslide to the Democrats.

Heh, my girlfriend isn't going to be happy with me: I'm going to be watching the TV all night long until I know we have our majorities in the House and Senate.

I am very anxious. Been trying to wean off medication and substitute walking and other healthy things. Doing great with it, but today I'm over the top.

I have two bottles of champagne on ice for tonight. Labelled "House Majority" and "Senate Majority". Will get mighty and happy drunk tonight if we win both houses.

33. Overall, optimistic, even with the problems being reported
around the country. Voter turnout seems to be higher than usual for a mid-term election, which is great. But I do have butterflies in my stomach, waiting for the results to start coming in.

I decided to use "The Googles" new archive search engine to look at earlier Selections since Nov 1999....

and since 9/11 was of particular "quality to distract"; I focused on that.

I walked a lot of blocks today doing GOTV. Just about 6 hours. I have a better appreciation today of why Austin is in an area called "The Hill Country".

But right now I feel pretty good. Turnout is good in my precint. Got a kickin' party to go to tonight with the local Dems. My parents have already voted today...straight ticket Dem on PAPER BALLOTS. Life is good. Let's hope it stays that way. *crosses fingers*

I'm too tired to panic at the moment. Ask me again later though. *snort*

72. I'm pissed.
I live in New Jersey in a senior citizen building with 250 units...in a Democratic area. The elevators have been down since 1:00 P.M. and are still down at almost 6:00 P.M.

I walked down 7 floors and back up, but a lot of the people are, too old and/or handicapped.

74. Trepidation Tuesday
My stomach is in knots. Can't eat, can't focus on anything except the outcome. I'm trying not to think of how I felt the morning after the election 2 years ago. Don't ever want to go back to that morning. Never again. Regardless, I guess I'm somewhat hopeful, but what I really want is ECSTATIC!!

Nervous. Paranoid. I have an out-of-the-ordinary distraction tonight, though - my mom's being laid out before her funeral Mass tomorrow, so we have the vigil this evening. So, actually, I have TWO reasons to be an absolute mess.

I just got back from voting , it was punch card in Hollywood .

I was tired before and kept the energy to go vote , now i feel the concern and worry . but i did my part for the democratic party .

This is nerve wearing stuff because I don;t want to miss Brad Friedman and Malloy tonight , then i can sleep I hope , this is if things go our way .

he was elected to office a few times. That was NOTHING compared to tonight. I'm old, I still drink the hard stuff (when I drink at all).....it's gin & tonic time tonight! May even have two!

PS But feeling satisfied that we did everything we could on our end. Exhausted here, but a good exhausted.

before these things. Go into that head space that's beyond politics. Just in case it doesn't go well.
Self-protective. So much hope but so much corruption. Whatever happens, it WILL be a new day. That's my mantra. We're going to make changes...what we have now is just unacceptable.

88. Doing okay.
It would be very very easy at this point to let myself get carried away and visualize ecstatic victory or hopeless defeat, and then vaccilate like crazy between the two extremes. As it is, I'm trying to keep it low-key. In 2004, it seemed my every nerve-ending was tied directly to the election returns and DU posts, and of course the let-down was disastrous. It was very very personal. This time, I'm just not willing to do that to myself. I know I've done what I can do for the cause. The rest, I have no control over. It will go as it goes. I have an overall positive feeling, but I will deal with whatever future confronts us (bleak or hopeful) when we get there.

Gotta head out for a bit, but I'll definitely be back later to check the results.

before work . There had already been 20 people in the first
30 minutes of the polls being open . I've been in a great mood
all day wearing my I voted sticker :) ...Many comments all day
from parents and other teachers so hopefully I helped to remind
someone .

95. Voting fine: Gas $2.09 this morning when I voted, $2.26 just now
Voting took 5 minutes, because I bothered to mark in all the judges that were running unopposed.


As for the Gas prices, I realize that one point does not make a trend, but my local stations jumped today.

Can't wait to start hearing returns... Might have to have a single malt ready...
