Anyone know what is going on with the exit polls?
I'm not surprised that corruption is polling a plurality, but terrorism is second. Terrorism is AHEAD of Iraq and the economy! While corruption bodes well for us as an issue, terrorism helps the Republicans. I have a hard time believing that people rated it higher than Iraq and the economy, because nothing in the news has suggested that it be so.

9. We are close with them this time
But it puzzles me that terrorism would be listed so high, considering that there has been nothing in the news to suggest it being so.

5. They Have The Basis To Fix The Votes If They So Choose...
By claiming that "terrorism" and the "economy" are so important, they can claim that people were concerned about terrorism, so they voted repub, and they were happy with how the economy was going, so they voted repub.

By putting Iraq as 4th, they can marginalize and say that it was not as significant to voters as was terrorism, which is the only issue the repubs can even lay a claim to.

8. They're waiting for the final tallies so they can square the exits with the ...
actual vote. It was quite embarassing in 2004 when they didn't jive so this time they're waiting until Rove tells them what the numbers will be.

16. Or right around the same time...
I doubt they're going to jump the gun on any of the elections this time. Mitofsky had a lot of non-explaining to do the last time around so it's doubtful he'll make the same mistake again. I wonder if they'll even release them at all this time around.

11. Networks
The big five networks have agreed to keep the exit polls secret until 6:00 PM ET I think I heard.
This is to keep from early reporting errors.

No advantage for Republicans on the issue of terrorism.

17. Here's from NewsMax:
Exit Poll Data in Lockdown Mode

Fearing that exit poll results may be leaked — like they were in the 2004 election — top media companies are putting the polling operations into a virtual lockdown this Election Day.

For the first time, major media outlets will keep the results of Election Day exit polls secret until late in the afternoon.

The move comes in response to complaints about the accuracy of exit polls in the 2004 presidential election, when bloggers posted data from early exit polls and incorrectly called some states for 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry, indicating that he would unseat President Bush.

Republican critics said the leaked poll results were used to stifle voter turnout in critical Western states.

But the media lockdown of results may not fix the other problem of the 2004 election: the fact that the location of poll takers in precincts around the country were leaked to pro-Kerry forces — allowing them to skew results by sending phony voters to claim they had cast a vote for Kerry.

Note: No doubt as a prank by a "friend", my name got added to the NewsMax mailing list, and I frequently get 2~3 mailings a day. Out of morbid fascination, I've been unable to bring myself to unsubscribe.
