My mom had to vote on a provisional ballot today.

I live in New York, in a little hyper-blue district. We have the same lever machines that we've had as long as I can remember. I voted at around noon with no problem, and she got home at around 4:30.

She said she was not in the book. She voted just fine in '04 - WAS in the book. We both received an official mailing confirming that we were registered and such.

So she had to vote on a provisional ballot. I'm glad it was paper, but.... The poll workers said this had been happening a LOT today with people from our apartment complex - a heavily black and minority area. But then, what part of Queens isn't a minority area?

I haven't heard of this kind of problem happening before here.
