Colorado Judge DENIES democrats' appeal to keep Denver polls open
Edited on Tue Nov-07-06 06:06 PM by Gabi Hayes
for two hours

they just showed LONG lines waiting outside a polling place, the result of a new practice there, of common polling places, not restricted to precinct...just go, show, and vote.

apparently it's not working, and dems want an extension of time, but the judge DENIED it.

surprised?

this was on CNN about a minute ago

I can't believe 88% of those polled on CNN said they have confidence in their votes being counted. guess they couldn't imagine that they wouldn't even be able to VOTE

welcome to Stalinist CCCP

EDIT: according to poster below, the problem was with the voting machines, not the new method of voter gathering.

different reason, same result

4. Canadian with a question
If the polls close and people are still in line, they do not get to vote? I mean, they don't put something at the end of the line saying "no more, we're closed"? You mean all those people could be in line for hours and not get to vote? I can't believe this.

9. That's pretty much how it always works.
Perhaps Denver's an exception.

IIRC, the request for keeping the polls open for an additional couple of hours was because of some screw-up this morning that kept the polls from opening on time.

5. Is that frigging legal?
I thought they had to let everyone vote...as long as they stood in line before the dang poll closed they should have to let them vote. They had this problem in Ohio in 04 and there the Judges decided that Voting is a Right and they had to keep the dang place open until the last one in line by 7:00 pm had voted...which was at around 2:00 am in the morning if I remember correctly......

6. Gabi that is not why the attorneys filed.
There were machine malfunctions this morning in Denver and people were told to come back later.

10. thanks...will edit OP....I heard it just as they were talking about the judge
denying the motion, despite the problems. all I heard was the part about voting everywhere. I missed the beginning part, about the machines

Thx

8. Appointed by Bill Owens (Fucking-R)
I would suggest they appeal it directly to the Colo State Supreme Court. It's still a slim Democratic majority there

13. Take it to the CSSC!
We've got a 5-2 majority there, IIRC. Fortunately Governor Ritter will allow us to keep it that way.
