DIEBOLD WILL NEVER BE A PROBLEM IN ALABAMA
Edited on Tue Nov-07-06 06:08 PM by Jeffersons Ghost
In the deep south, folks are just too laid back for those new-fangled gadgets. Down here, we keep it simple. Tradition matters, with us and so does money. Why waste all that cash that Republicans in power need to make yacht payments and such?

When I went to vote at the same polling place that gladly took my vote a few months ago, they simply told me to go vote somewhere else. According to the people working the polls, I was no longer on the roll. Make no mistake, three months ago, I made very sure that everything was in order at the Registrars Office, after spending so many years out of state. I should have known better than to vote in the Democratic primary. In Alabama they allow voters to participate in the opposition's primary and then cross-over in general elections. I even thought about cross-voting to unseat local incumbants and more easily elect Democrats. When I finally had ballot in hand, though, I felt like a DU Troll, so I voted my heart.

Well, to make a long story short, I drove the fifty miles one-way to slide my paper ballot through a machine. It was so fast and easy that writing this feels like I'm creating a TV commercial. For once in my life, I voted a straight ticket with one little mark on top of the ballot. With all that time saved by not carefully reviewing candidates, like years past, I considered fixing some missing ink on the Democratic logo but with that big black elephant under it, I saw no reason to worry with fixing our tattered little donkey.

I would have crawled the fifty miles through broken glass to vote on a damned Diebold machine this year to do my civic duty. In years past, it seemed such a chore. Back then, I voted when there was extra time in my busy schedule. Have you ever wondered how it feels for people in other countries to vote, after they unseat a dictator or over-throw a tyrant? Maybe, for the first time in my life, I got a taste of how others feel when they get a snowflack's chance in hell to rise above oppression.

By the way, did you vote?

3. So true. Voting used to be such a chore
What was I thinking back then?

Too bad you chose this night to post this post of yours Jeffersons Ghost because more people should get a chance to read it. It is a really good read, but it won't be able to stay on the front page for more than a minute tonight.

It's just a quick little reminder to try and grab a few last minute votes but I'm glad you enjoyed it Robbien... Although I hardly ever drink, the tension after all these months of work is killing me. I was thinking of beer but seeing the exit polls makes me want champaign. If you don't mind, give it a little nudge later, you never know when a few extra votes will matter.

I'm glad you posted because i wanted to tell you what an honor it was to post on the same board with such a smart hard-working patriot. If you don't think people like you saved America just tuen on FOX and listen to their not-so-subtle attacks on bloggers. If not for people like you, our country would be FOX-food tonight. thank you for being such a good friend, hard-worker and incredibly faithful allie through all this. Finally I can relax and enjoy creating my graphic post tomorrow. I may still hint at creating an online declaration of independence but, at least now they won't bust me for sedition. lol

8. I cried at the sight of our beautiful levers.
And walked out of the Gay and Lesbian Center where I vote in Greenwich Village singing The Battle Hymn of the Republic. It just seemed right.

10. I'm just glad this election is out of the way so I can be far more vocal on equality...
I had to muffle it before today but gay people are oppressed and it just isn't fair. This is America dammit and after we prosecute a tyrant we can restore some of the freedom he snatched from us and begin a fight for equality for ALL. When gay people do not receive justice, there is no justice for anyone. I'm just getting started with this issue. Before tonight, I didn't want to give neocons fuel to power up their bigoted narrow minded base. tomorrow is a new day!
