I mean, do they HAVE to stand on the stage and cry?

Not trying to be mean... but I think they could have cried in private.
It will be that picture that is everywhere tomorrow

On Edit: I work with kids, I'm not trying to trash them. My point is, I think they were made to cry- because THAT is what everyone will talk about tomorrow.

Well, they're crying because their dad lost a senate race, but other kids are crying because their daddies died in Iraq.

27. he said that? It actually is a good thought, I think
there IS a big difference between crying because your dad lost a senate race and crying because your dad was killed in the Iraq occupation. Did he really say that? wow, I didn't expect him to be able to know that.

23. Believe me, she's old enough.
She may not understand all of the nuances - but she understands. My father ran for public office 3 times when I was a little girl. I stuffed envelopes, went door to door, walked in parades, went to political fundraisers - and I thought the world of my dad. I was emotionally invested in his campaign. His losses were my losses - and I was hurt and disappointed by them.

I don't think the little girl was hamming it up at all - I thought she was trying to be stoic, but her heartbreak and disappointment got the better of her and she couldn't control her tears.

Take it easy on the kids, folks!

7. Let's leave the kids out of it
For all you know, tricky Ricky told the kids that they wouldn't have Christmas because Daddy lost his job because of the mean old Democrats. I didn't like when the pubs made fun of Amy Carter or Chelsea Clinton--let's not stoop to their level.

And his kids will always remember the moment. It's political child abuse and it's really sad.

26. Kids aren't able to hide their emotions
and they aren't able to predict the outcome of an election the way adults are. To kids, their parents are everything. It probably didn't really occur to them that most people would vote against their dad.

31. As much as I loathe Santorum - Leave the kids alone
For all we know he may be a great father. And remember these kids have never seen their father lose, it's got to be bitter medicine.

I'm not going to criticize the kids. It's tough on them and I can't blame them for crying.

39. Lighten Up On The Kids
I've held elected office for 10 years and have never had to face losing an election. I can't imagine how my kids would react if I lost. The first time I ran my opponent toted his kids down to the polling place after the polls had closed. He came strutting in certain that he had won. He had 4 kids between 5 and 10 and they were all excited to see daddy win. When they opened up the machines and I had kicked his ultra right wing ass by a 2-1 margin his kids looked like they had just seen Santa Claus killed in front of their eyes. Their father was a complete douche bag but it still creeped me out to see those kids. They didn't do anything wrong and it isn't their fault that their dad is a jerk. Same thing with Santorum's kids.
