it would have required letters be sent home for teens 15-18 wanting abortions, before they could get them. These letters could have been sent home to the rapist or an abusive family member, putting the teens in greater danger. If teens wanted an exception, they would have to go through the courts, and receive a judicial waiver.

The fundies offended far too many of the moderates. The van with pictures of aborted fetuses cruising up and down 41st Street in Sioux Falls did not change minds, except to convince people to make the anti-abortion crowd shut up.

South Dakotans didn't want to be the battleground to refight Roe v. Wade.

The ban probably would have been upheld if there had been exceptions for the life of the mother, rape and incest.

I'll tell you that there was an amazing amount of groundwork done by some outstanding students. It was going on non stop and did a great job of spreading their message. So if you ever get a chance, thanks these kids for what they've helped to do.

(Not to exclude the many others who did much, but I've been hearing alot about how 'bad' our generation is compared to ones past)
