DU Pessimists Check-In
If you are super happy and jazzed up that the Dems (have won/did win/are winning) and are really excited that things are finally going to change.....

Don't bother reading this thread.

This thread is for people like me who are going to wait until the smoke all clears in a few days to be excited. The Republicans are full of dirty tricks and I don't count them out just yet.

Some possible scenarios are:

Demands for recounts.
Charges of election fraud that result in "evidence" that "proves" the Democrats cheated.
A "Night of the Long Knives" type scenario...

1. My God Some People Just Refuse To Be Happy.
I truly feel for you. I truly do.

This is well deserved elation right now. The overwhelming risk factor is over with. Jesus, let some joy in, will ya? Holy cow.

13. Did I say I "refuse" to be happy?
No, I am being cautious though. I just don't want to get all excited when the opposition is well known for cheating.

I am also not stopping you from being happy. I did in fact specifically say that if you were elated, to not bother reading this thread (no offense intended). I am happy that you and most everyone else is happy. :)

I however remain vigilant in the face of an enemy that has committed some of the most severe and egregious violations of the Constitution in history. Evil has a way of turning the tables.

Like I said initially, I will celebrate after victory has actually happened and all the dirty tricks have been unleashed.

2. I guess I'm hard to convince.

Why else would I be listening to Suicidal Tendencies right now?

All I wanted was a Senate majority, mom!

edit- I forgot... :)

8. The Senate is nowhere near as important to the impeachment goal
as the House. If Conyers gets sufficient evidence and he already has, the House will write the articles of impeachment and the Senate will be obligated to try the bastards and I suspect, given that there is no political advantage for all of the Rethugs to fall in line, we can likely convict even without a majority in the Senate.

9. Now that is cool.
I know about the House majority. But I didn't know about conviction without a Senate majority.

WOO HOOOOOOOOO!

I'm officially stoked!

:)

3. I was a pessimist but was becoming hopeful
I felt like all the publicity about the huge Dem turnout was going to keep the Rethugs in line or at least that's what I was hoping. I have been unable to invest the kind of emotional load that I did in 2004. The Kerry debacle scarred me more than I realized. I'm happy tonight, sort of. I guess because I shielded myself from hope, I am not able to feel the exhilaration.

This is far from over
I see a bunch of recounts and litigation.

And I'm really pissed about Corker taking TN. I'm impressed by the closeness of the race though. Much better than the double digits some polls were showing this to be. Fucking racist ass holes.

14. Ok
Therapy is all well and good, however...

The Republicans have unleashed massive amounts of cheating in pretty much every election since 2000 (and before..)
This administration has done unholy and utterly un-Constitutional things.

Just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you. ;-)

5. I'm happy about the House...
and optimistic about the Senate. Even if we don't get a majority in the Senate, we closed the gap considerably.

6. I love pessimists! It's the dark streak in me.
Really, I'm a realist. I worry about the VA recount, too. I worry about Alberto Gonzales and the AG cronies that moved into this election mess.

A LOT of VA voting machines now leave no paper trail, which will make a recount go much faster. Then, if we win, we have to change things and slow down the recount process with a paper trail and open elections.

More than a pessimist, I think you may be a masochist! :) Such dour posts are likely to be poorly received, don't you think?

Peace.

10. I am a TOTAL pessimist, but this has gone much better than I expected.
I assumed that Rove would let us win the House, but not the Senate. Or, I thought that maybe they'd rig it so that we'd lose it by 1 or 2 seats in all directions. Honestly, I still don't know why Rove didn't pull strategy on us. But I'm pretty sure that they're not going to steal the election after the fact. It would make them look bad.

People know that we really won. In fact, at the end of the day, we probably won by 55-58% in many of these elections and they just couldn't suppress and rig their way to a victory.

On the other hand, I'm still pessimistic about the common sense of the American people. Are these fickle fuckers going to vote Republican again when the PNAC tell them that Hugo Chavez makes smoochyfaces with Osama Bin Laden? If we go to war with Iran, will they be scared back into submission. Forty percent of the American people are out of their got dam minds and 10% are wishy-washy as shit. I'll feel safe when pundits won't say that the Dems need to vote for torture to keep their seats. Or when stem cell research isn't as much of an atrocity as blown-apart Iraqi babies.

I'm still reserved about my emotions on this election, but for once this pessimist is feeling positive.

11. I'm still cautious at this point...
It's around 10 pm here and I well remember how optimistic and excited I was at this time of night 2 years ago only to have the whole damn thing crash and burn when those bastards stole the whole damn election right in front of us! :grr:

So hell yeah, I want to jump up and down, but I won't just yet. Actually I was thinking of having a glass of wine to calm down my fricken nerves because I really doubt I will be able to sleep tonight!
