bad news folks. The election results have caused
us to gain control of both the house and the senate.
That means it is now our responsibility to fix 6 years of mayhem, destruction, anti-constitutional crap and unnecessary war. It is a huge task. It is a hard task. It may be an impossible, insurmountable task. These neocon pigs have done that much damage to our formerly great nation.

But, there is good news, too. I'd rather have Pelosi, Reid, Clinton, Obama, Durbin, Webb, and many other REAL PATRIOTS doing their damnedest with our help, than to face two more years of the stay the coarse.

We still have a president to deal with, a petulant, smug, barely sentient, jerk who is genetically incapable of admitting a mistake or giving a sincere apology. The landscape has changed, and that alone is something to rejoice in.

2. Well Bush is still in office
He will still be able to do damage, but the worst of it (hopefully..with my fingers crossed!) is over.

5. Bush still gets the blame until we win the White House in '08
Then we will face real political scrutiny.

7. A couple of questions
Does that Senate projection include Lieberman? Cause I'm not convinced he's going to caucus with Dems. In fact, I'd be surprised if he voted to make Harry Reid Majority Leader.

Also, until the absentees are factored in, I can't really close the book on Virginia. It's just too close.

But if, as you say, we have won the Senate in addition to the House, then we have an opportunity to force Bush's hand on so many issues that he has feigned indifference on.

We can put forth a minimum wage hike and see who votes for/against it.

How about a civil unions bill? I'd prefer marriage, but civil unions is a start, and it will help gay couples.

Green tax credits? Middle class tax cut with a rollback of the 2001 tax cut package? More student loan money?

Cuts on defense boondoggles like SDI?

It'll be interesting to see how far the Dems are willing to go with their majority, if indeed they get the Senate as well.

What a fucking shocker. Looking at the exit polls, it's clear the R's stole heavily, but apparently not enough.

What impresses me is that we won a fraudproof victory. Whichever way the Senate goes, that shouldn't stop us from celebrating heavily. This is a victory for working people, a victory for America, and a victory for the rest of the world, who really desperately want Bush's Republican Party in the rearview mirror.

Tomorrow the hard work of putting America back together begins. Tonight, there's drinking to be done.

11. re: Lieberman
He's said that he'll caucus with the Dems in order to maintain his seniority on his committees, but he'll vote very independently.

Translation: "I'll caucus with the Dems so I retain my power, but I'll vote Republican."

What a worthless sack of shit.

8. Did you ever think someone BESIDES the Democrats would clean up the mess?
We were always going to be the party that used Congress to fix all the shit they've broken. It's just a good thing that we got a chance to start working on that now.

9. a not unlikely scenario for the next two years is gridlock . . .
with Bush weilding his veto pen on virtually every piece of legislation the Democrats try to enact . . . and gridlock is not what we need right now . . . we need action, and lots of it . . .

our only hope may be to strike deals with enough moderate Republicans in both houses of Congress (if there are any left) to actually be able to accomplish something . . . if we can't do that, I fear that we're in for two years of huffing and puffing and not much else . . .

10. Just a small correction.......
He made no mistake. Everything that loathsome man has done has been intentional. And, yes, I know I'm being picky, but c'mon, "sincere apology", when neither word is part of his lexicon? Otherwise, you've summarized his traits rather well.

And yep, the new Congress will be wrestling with some very daunting tasks. And we got to know that the neocons won't be spending too much time beating themselves up. Nope, they'll be busy conjuring up even more crap to throw at the American people. Everyone stateside, man your posts and hold firm.
