Meanwhile, over at Freak Repugnant:
Are we allowed to say it now?
None | 11/8/06 | dangus

Are we allowed to say it now? Can we drop the happy warrior schtick? In the past six years, we've seen the deficit explode like never before in the history of the country. A flaming bra-burner nominated to the Supreme Court, only to be replaced by a (hopefully) stealth conservative. The most inept State Department in the history of the United States. (Clinton's wasn't incompetent; they were flat-out fifth columnists.) 20 million new illegal aliens, and barely-contained glee that the election-day losses mean we can welcome another 50 million in.

And I hate to say this, but when we won the war in Iraq, I was praying for my friend who was an MP, fearing for his safety in the dangerous house-to-house searches. And then they never came. So I put joyful trust that the military didn't need to do such a dangerous task. Then came the insurgency. And bold optimism. And more violence. And more bold optimism. But, um, after 3,000 of America's finest dead, it becomes plainly apparent that Rummy and Bush simply didn't realize that disarming the terrorists was necessary.

So can we say it now?

That Bush is the most incompetent Republican ever?

14. I hope dangus hasn't been banned over there
Somebody will have to wake them up and talk some sense into them. They aren't likely to listen to any of us.

Consider that thing incompetence. Like vice, it doesn't know an ideology, a religious faith or a political party. Some people are good administrators and sound judges, others are one but the other, and still others, like the former governor of Texas who for six long years has styled himself as the President of the United States, are neither. We've had good conservative presidents like Eisenhower and poor liberal ones like Carter.

We and the Freepers may argue whether Bush is a worse president than James Buchanan or Warren G. Harding, but he is among the worst, perhaps the very worst. Regardless of whether or not it was a good idea to invade Iraq, the fact remains that nobody in Bush's junta knew what to do once there. Three years of occupation and water and power still aren't being delivered to homes and businesses in Baghdad, the streets are chaotic and the American occupiers, like Saddam's henchmen, torture those they suspect of subversion and bomb the crap out of entire towns when the natives get too restless. It was embarrassing enough for me, as an American, to listen to the spokesmen for the Bush regime reduce their pride in occupation to being better than Saddam; it was devastating to my pride to see Bush and his gang flunk even that modest test.

The Freepers won't get an argument from me that Osama is a threat. They will get an argument from me that toppling Saddam somehow made us safer from Osama. We are just as likely to be hit by a terrorist attack now as we were on September 11, 2001. I don't want that to happen. That is why I do not support Mr. Bush and do not believe he and Mr. Cheney should be permitted to complete their terms of office. They aren't just incompetent; they are dangerously incompetent.

For the presumed sake of our safety, we have allowed Mr. Bush to suspend Habeas Corpus, listen to our private conversations and gather data about our private habits, establish kangaroo courts and torture -- yes, torture -- suspected terrorists. Waterboarding is a form of torture that was used to get witches to confess hundreds of years ago. It was thought very effective at getting witches to confess. That should give one an idea of the quality of information that can be gotten torturing suspects. Now, not only is the terrorist Osama a threat to our freedoms, but so is the incompetent Bush.

It was a false presumption.

This is incompetence. It was not worth surrendering the Bill of Rights to these clowns in order to make ourselves safe from Osama bin Laden. One needed only to kill and capture him in Afghanistan. The Bush regime was not focused on that. They had a longstanding wet dream about invading Iraq and no small timer like Osama was going to divert them from the prize of Saddam and his Iraqi oil fields.

And after all that, did surrendering our freedoms make us safer? Not a bit.

Speaker-elect Pelosi may say the impeachment is off the table. We of the progressive community must persuade her that the safety of Americans requires that it be put back on the table. Bush and Cheney must be removed from power as soon as possible.

i'd like to quote it on my blog. just one caveat: the bush admin in my opinion is not nearly so incompetent as they appear: they're fucking evil.. remember bush telling brownie how he was doing a good job while new orleans drowned? i think that may have been the actual moment i began to believe that none of the "missteps" exhibited by the bushies were in fact "missteps" to their thinking: it was all in a days' work. getting rid of people, the better to solidify their power base the better to appropriate the wealth.

where i agree with you one thousand, one million percent: they need to be gone, NOW, now!

crossing my fingers, praying too, the dems and (if there exist any at all) the remaining republicans with an ounce of a conscience understand how important this is.

peace out

"Carnage in the two World Wars was devastating. In The Face of Battle, historian John Keegan recounts how the British took 419,654 casualties at the Somme in 1916. There were 60,000 casualties the first day, “of whom 21,000 had been killed, most in the first hour of the attack, perhaps the first minutes.”

"He has not been the most incompetent but he has been pretty bad. But it's not about Bush anymore, it's time to look for our new leader in 08' and learn from our mistakes. It's not any one persons fault though the President dose take a great deal of blame for our losses, all elected republicans and the party needs to take responsibility for the election and learn from our mistakes and make 08 a Republican Sweep.
