Why Lieberman won't jump ship...
The GOP has twice the seats to defend in '08.

Our majority will grow. count on it.

Joe looks out from himself and he's no way in hell going to throw in with a sinking ship
2 years in the mjority at the expense of his longterm power isn't worth it to him.

2. Think shorter term
Presuming Tester wins, that other independent will caucus with the Democrats for sure. The best Lieb could get from siding with Republicans is one half of a divided power structure, with the Republicans owing him little because he's handing all his cards over up front. OTOH, by siding with the Democrats and retaining his full caucus seniority, Lieb has his committee fun and becomes a powerful majority member, able to sell that power for the highest possible price.

It's all about him. Given that, he's really easy to predict here.

3. We only have Landrieu, Johnson, and possibly Harkin and Lautenberg

The GOP has Allard, Coleman, Sanunu (after tonight, I hope Lynch runs against him) and hopefully we can get rid of Liddy Dole (Easley?)
