I just wanted to add a voice of congratulations from the heart of Europe.
We've watched with increasing incredulity how the executive has systematically lied, connived and hacked away at so many of what were the founding values of the United States of America. We hoped, as did all of you, that 7th November would be the first real gust of the wind of change.

We crossed fingers... actually, we crossed everything we had two of - hence the profuse weeping over here in Europe!

But, people, you did it. You finally did it. All credit goes to you, for your tenacity, your belief, your motivation of those around you and your dogged, never-say-die attitude.

YOU did it.

Congratulations - a thousand times over, congratulations.

A different responsibility comes your way now. One that we have tried, and failed to achieve in Europe. Keep those that you have elected, those to whom you have given your mandate, your voice and your belief, keep them true to the cause - to their promises to you personally, to your country and to the rest of the world.

Tonight is for celebration. Tomorrow is for work.

Enjoy the party everyone - you damned well deserve EVERY bit of it!

10. thank you for not loathing us
On our trip to England recently I considered telling everyone I talked to "Oh, and by the way, I voted for Kerry" so they wouldn't hate me, but actually everybody had those beautiful English manners so it wasn't necessary. But it was so embarrassing every time I opened my mouth and this American accent came out.

Thank you so much for not blaming us for the sins of our leaders. (That is, our "leaders.")

35. It means a lot, to me, in any event ...
... that even through the depths of our recent insanity, the Mother Country has stood with us. I regret the damage that the U.S. has caused to Labour as a result.

We'll do our best to reclaim the White House in '08, but the Tories on this side of the pond are downright vicious, and I wouldn't put it past them to effect a coup rather than giving up the reigns of government. For the moment, I shall hope I'm merely being paranoid.

Many thanks for the support and encouragement.

Now, I think I'll have a Newcastle. :toast:

39. Newcastle Broon?
... a fine, fine drop of the good stuff!

Well deserved too!

I'm still not quite sure WHAT the hell we are going to do in the UK...

I campaigned my butt off in '97 - was overwhelmed with the success... and handed my party membership card back two years later...

Now THAT is disappointment!

But - none of that today! Today is for taking a deep breath, enjoying the victory and then turning thoughts to the business of the day.

Such as impeachment....

26. Thank you for acknowledging us.
The greatest gift, immediately, that is, is that each and every one of us did his bit and no one person pulled it off alone. This in the face of considerable election fraud and voter suppression.

We are very well aware of the bad odor this clown administration has immersed us in throughout the world and our enormous responsibility for correcting it.

Thanks again and please be aware that we need all the help we can get.:grouphug:

But we'll hopefully we'll take it as a lesson learned, to not be so cavalier with our democracy.

70. The nightmare is not over, but
My hope is that we have erected a roadblock to the idiot starting more wars. Unfortunately, we have a substantial number of democrats who support colonialism in the Middle East. With any luck, they will now see that conquering Middle Eastern countries in a modern day Crusade is reckless and not in the country's national interests.

Thanks for the congratulations. I apologize on behalf of my country for allowing the idiot in the White House to have caused so much grief in the world.

74. Thank you so very, very much. We did this as much for the rest of the
world as for ourselves. Now that Rummy is going, hopefully there will be more to follow. We're not all dumb asshats over here - just the ones in the media. Thanks for sticking with us.
