13. MT has a tough Dem Governor
so that is one upshot. Schweitzer will be tough and fair.

4. It's going to be difficult for Allen to find 8,000 (give or take) more votes
in any kind of recount, though it's well within his right to ask for one. He also needs to consider how much scrutiny it will attract - FBI was called into VA, and while Allen may not have been directly responsible, it's certainly fair to ask questions about voter intimidation. Does he want that? And lastly, the GOP made sure that "sore loserman" became a household word...how long can Allen put up with hearing that before he blows a gasket? His own campaign kept him quiet because he kept putting both feet in his mouth, imagine what he's capable of during a recount where the senate may hang in the balance. Oh, the macaca he will spew.

I won't be surprised if Allen goes ahead with a recount, but I don't think it will help him in the long run. He can easily walk into any lobbyist and hire on immediately - he can't run for president, but if he gets out of the game now, he might be able to keep his dignity.

7. Allen has no ammo.
My guess is any recount would help Webb.

8. A couple of sources last night were saying...
how rare it is for ANY recount to change a result, and in fact they nearly always reaffirm the winner by a larger margin.

10.  We took Virginia. Allen can fight if he wants but he'll just prolong the inevitable. Montana is
where the news is.

11. Any word on the absentee ballots there?
I read last night that there were something like 400,000+ absentee ballots uncounted.

I imagine that will happen first, before any recount possibilities....

15. Talking about VA AB's?
The absentee ballots were largely counted last night along with the regular ballots. Probably 98% of them.

VA absentee ballots have to be in by election day - no extension. They always count them along with the regular ballots.

I saw a post yesterday implying otherwise, but you speak with confidence so I'll take your word for it.

If you drill down deep enough you will see 'Absentee Precincts" in each district.

12. Virginia's over...no candidate has ever made up 8000 votes in a recount
Allen knows it. It's all over but the crying.

Montana, on the other hand...

16. Actually, yes, I can
Having lived through the Selection 2000 in Palm Beach County, FL, I KNOW how bad they are going to try to make it. But with the "accurate" voting machines, there's not much they will be able to do with it. Maybe now we can get one of the Republicans to help my congressman fight for a paper trail.

Despite getting this asswipe Crist for governor, I'm in a euphoric (and slightly hungover) mood today!!
