He doesn't know how to do anything but a string of talking points in campaign rally format. I don't expect him to have changed the course overnight. Can't be firing Rummy. That would be too easy.

Craig Crawford said earlier that * won't be just a Lame Duck but an Invisible Duck.

1. Martial Law...?
After all, if he believes that God chose him to be leader, why should anyone else try to stand in God's way?

7. Tell Carl he did one hell of a job?
Then lock his office door at the WH. Looks like Clinton's guy that said most people are in the middle and not on the edge is a better bet.

8. Declaring Martial Law?
An "unspecified terrorist threat" which requires "emergency powers" with no congressional oversight for 6 months. (I forget which Executive Order that is, but he can do it)

MCA + PA + VEO* = Orwellian nightmare?

*VEO: Various Executive Orders

Also, let us not forget Hitler in his final days...

10. blah blah bipartisan blah cooperation has to go both ways

blah blah principles blah blah Terrorists blah blah Democrats don't have a plan blah I won't let anyone prevent us from achieving victory in Iraq.

In short, he has no plan but he has to bullshit, bluster, and bluff, essentially to intimidate the Democratic leadership out of grabbing control away from him. He has no hope but to grab up all the power he can and shield himself with it.

Democrats will reply that they will oh so carefully consider all his Wise Words but that The People have elected them to do stuff like improve ethics, raise the minimum wage, and so on. Then they'll go off into their offices and lock the doors and work out what they really want and how to go about it, and let Bush stew. The point is to let the GOP factions tear each other up, as they will after blowing so much power, and send Bush and his hardliners falling under 30%. Iraq may well blow up before Inauguration Day, too, and it's a good idea to not shield Bush from the political blast and shrapnel and fallout. In politics, the selfinflicted wounds are the lethal ones.

11. your thoughts on what bush's "tone" will be...
1. conciliatory and humbled - asking for bi-partisanship

or

2. more arrogance and hubris - warning dems not to thwart his plans

or

3. going through a backdoor and speaking to the "people" - i.e. warnings of dire things yet to come if the Dems don't bow down to his authority

I'm betting on a combination of all three. his comments will begin with a call for cooperation, then he'll threaten the dems followed by issuing dire warnings

15. but bush doesn't listen to the people
he's as much said it many times as in "I don't pay attention to polls" and variations thereof

it's one thing not to change/adjust policy based solely on polls, however polls do reflect public opinion and it behooves an elected official to at the very least make a note of them instead of locking themselves in a bubble
