I understand the overwhelming exuberance of everyone, though I do not share it at the moment. I am sure I will after we are actually in the clear.
The problem I see is everyone running around yelling "Impeach Bush", "The Dems are going to get Bush now!", "Now we have subpoena power" and "Now we have the power".
While these statements are all sort of true, the "magical thinking" part of it comes in since many of you seem to think that as of right now, tonight (this morning?) all this power is conveyed unto the Democrats.
The Democrat leadership has already said they aren't going to seek impeachment. Pelosi promised that on national television. If they turn around and impeach Bush, then it will be used to paint all Dems as liars in '08.
The Republicans have a month and half to create and theoretically pass some of the most insane legislation yet.
Bush as a lame duck is even more dangerous. Who knows what nuttery he could hatch. For all we know, if he actually buys into all the Christian stuff about him, that he is fighting evil, I shudder to imagine what madness he could unleash. :nuke:
I am not saying I don't want you to be happy. I am not saying I don't want you energized and excited. What I am saying is you need to keep your eyes and ears open and stay focused.
Also, be a little more gentle in your gloating over the Republicans. Things like laughing at Santorum's children for crying is just sickening. Be gracious winners. The Democrat symbol is a donkey. Don't be a jackass. The Republican symbol is an elephant because they have long memories of every slight and will trample you underfoot in their vengeance. Treat them better than they treat you and keep the moral high ground.

1. I worked my ass off for my gloat today, and I'm going to indulge it |

after 6 long years for frustration and dashed hopes.
Tomorrow I'll go back to being reasonable and a nice person. There are still a few Repugs on my list that I need to tell "hey dumbass, This is what a mandate looks like"

2. I didn't say "not to gloat" just.. |

be more gentle than laughing at weeping children and encouraging people to commit suicide. Some of the shit people have been saying here tonight is on par with things Freepers would say.

5. I agree with you about being gracious winners |

However, we have been living in a parallel hell for SIX years. Allowing others a moment to breathe deeply and completely is called for here. "Magical thinking" or not we deserve to feel really good about our country and the winning of a bit of enlightenment. The message that the American people just sent to gw is undeniable. For that I am proud and extremely happy!

6. It's Bushco who indulged in magical thinking |
|
by believing that they could force their will on America and the world simply by "creating reality" through spin and propaganda.
