Rumsfeld will resign soon, says Sen. Bennett
Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 07:42 AM by Hamlette
With results coming in Tuesday night from an election many said was a referendum on the Iraq war, Sen. Bob Bennett said he expected Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to resign soon. "My expectation is he will leave after the election," said Bennett, who has been in close contact with Republican Party leaders in the past several days. He believes Rumsfeld stayed through the election so he wouldn't look like a scapegoat prior to midterm voting.

Fellow Sen. Orrin Hatch declined to comment Tuesday night on Rumsfeld's tenure but conceded that election results showed the American public wanted something different from Congress on "just about everything," including Iraq, he said. "I think we all have to reassess," Hatch said. "I think the people are speaking here. I don't think we can ignore them."

2. Hatch doesn't think they can ignore the people? The Repukes have
been ignoring the people for years. Bush and Cheney both have outright declared that they don't care what the people think. They're in their Marie Antoinette period - "Let them eat cake".

So NOW Hatch thinks it's time to listen to the people, and reassess. Why didn't the Repukes do this all along, and stop walking lockstep with the loser-in-chief? Too little, too late.
