For the last few years, my habit in waking up on weekday mornings has been as follows: alarm goes off at 7:25, I reset the alarm and catnap for 5 more minutes, then I drag myself out of bed and amble off to the shower, as though a man walking toward the electric chair.
Yesterday, however, I found myself awake -- WIDE awake -- at a few minutes before 7. Awake enough that I knew I wasn't going to get back to sleep. What the hell, I decided, might as well shower and then go vote (I had been planning to vote after work, or during my lunch break). So I got up, and found myself unusually energetic and optimistic.
This morning, day after the election, same deal. Wide awake at 7, get out of bed with energy and optimism, looking forward to the day.
It's as though I now have a reason to wake up in the mornings . . .

It will always be easier to get out of bed in the morning when you're confident about what's happening in the world around you.
It also doesn't hurt to feel a little smug about the serious ass-whoopin' we put on the repukes... :)

I woke up this morning and went to hit the snooze button but turned on the TV and immediately realized it's a brand new day. Now we just have to make something positive of this opportunity over the next two years!
But for a little while I'm gonna bask in the glow!
