Investigations can Lead to Impeachment by Building Political Consensus |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 09:02 AM by JCMach1
We need to push individual investigations into all areas that could lead to possible impeachment.
As the slime unfolds scandal by scandal, political consensus can be built bit by bit for impeachment.
Let the populace cry for it, and then give them what they want!

1. let Conyers loose on it. |
|
And I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that is exactly how it will happen.
Once someone drops a big old juicy filecabinet of evidence in front of Ms. Pelosi she'll *decide* to do what's in the country's best interest.

2. Individual investigations first... including 9/11 |
|
as things drip drip drip, each new horror will raise a new cry for impeachment. And, it must be Bush and Cheney!... a two for one deal

3. let's stop the talk of impeachment |
|
if the democrats go hellbent toward hearings into this subject the public will give us two years and then say, "the repubs were right! they want to just get revenge for clinton" we have to lead by having hearings featuring those generals who say our policy is wrong. we have to lead by having john murtha and the new representatives who have actually fought in this misguided adventure introduce legislation changing our policy.
impeachment is going to be counterproductive!

If it's an impeachment they deserve, it's one they'll get.
A cop doesn't let a robber get away in the hopes that innocent bystanders may not like him. He goes after the robber - which is doing his job.
The people will appreciate it later.

9. Uhhh, not if you don't have the goods |

We don't need a re-run of Clinton...
We need the evidence and the political consensus behind us. We get that by pulling away the curtain with investigations first.

It will be difficult for the Repugs to obstruct investigations now, seeing as they're no longer in charge of the committees. (Hot damn, that alone was well worth all the nail-biting turmoil!!) John Conyers will NOT let these matters go. And I think neither will Henry Waxman.
Investigation is the proper way to proceed. And it must be done.

6. Investigate FIRST, Impeach if warranted |
|
That was the Repugs problem with the Clinton impeachment... there was no political consensus in the country for it and it was the ultimate overreach because of that.
If we uncover enough crap, impeachment will take care of itself... The people will cry for it, not Congressional leaders...
