Lieberman will keep his promise |
|
I am disappointed as hell that Lamont did not win but I think Lieberman will vote for a democratic senate leadership. Joe is a ambitious bastard and after the election last night it's pretty obvious which way the political winds are blowing in this country. He will not attach himself to a party that was just completely trounced.
OK back to your regularly scheduled celebration  :toast: :bounce: :toast:

1. It depends how the recounts go |
|
Joe is just as likely to caucus with the Republicans as he is the Democrats. Because, after all, it is all about Joe. I surely wouldn't count on him.

4. He is closer to the Republican view on foreign policy |
|
but not on domestic affairs. I think he will almost certainly caucus with the Dems, but he'll remain a hawk.

2. According to CNN this morning, he will be sworn in as an independent |
|
It would appear that he will not be classed with the Democrats.

5. Since I live in CT and Joe played up his role as a power-player |

Since I live in CT and Joe played up his role as a power-player, I'm demanding lots of pork and earmarks for my state. I want a massive project to upgrade/improve the New Haven to New York corridor for starters. I don't even care if they call it the Joementum Project if he can get that done.

Don't waste money on cars. I moved from Connecticut because the place is paved to oblivion and traffic on the complte spectrum of roads is out of control.
Build more mass transit, do not waste another dime on I-95!

10. Oh, Joe has already demonstrated his word was meaningless |
|
We can't trust a word he says. You can be sure of one thing and one thing only...Joe will do what is in the best interest of Joe. Period. If Joe gave a shit about anything else, he would not have stolen the votes and effectively disenfranchised a huge number of CT democrats who went to the polls, chose their candidate, and essentially were told their votes didn't mean a thing.
He'll be no different, and in fact, he might actually take this as some sort of affirmation of his whining, conniving, weaseling strategy and just become worse. Joe won't get it, that he was elected by REPUBLICANS, not democrats. Or...maybe he will? Who knows. He's a disgrace, imo.

purely out of self-interest and ambition.

Joe now has the power to switch the senate back to Repuke if the dems annoy him.

19. I suspect the Republicans don't even want him in their party |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 09:35 AM by LeftishBrit
They'd rather have him as their pet donkey, to prove how 'bipartisan' their policies are, than as their rogue elephant.
If he did switch parties, I suspect he'd end up making political history as the only incumbent to have been chucked out in the primaries of BOTH parties.
It's a pity he won, and a pity that deals may have to be made with him. But after all, in the many countries with multi-party PR-based systems, it would be routine to have to make a few deals with the otherwise-insignificant members of weird minor parties in order to keep overall control. Better that than Cheney!
