1st thing Democrats should do: Open-source e-voting machine legislation |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 09:43 AM by Selatius
Or better yet, allow states to go back to paper ballots that make sense, none of these butterfly ballots or whatever bullshit the good folks of Dade County and Broward County brought us in 2000, and if a state or county wants to use e-voting anyway, then the only machines they could use would be machines using non-proprietary, open-source software that is publicly approved for all to examine and audit.
Anybody trying to make money off the election system by trying to sell their proprietary machines to public municipalities after this legislation is passed should simply be sent to Iraq.
If I had my way, there would be no option but paper ballots, but unfortunately, states and counties make the decision, and there's more than a few dumbasses out there like Ken Blackwell in state governments running the elections.

I don't know what's worse: the incessant whining when we lose, or the dazzling idiocy when we win.

What exactly do you find idiotic? If you have nothing constructive to say to me, why did you even bother to respond???

2. I really think paper ballots are the way to go -- people don't change at the same |

rate as technology.
Our ballots here are mind-numbingly simple and everyone should have them :D.

5. I do, too, but unfortunately the decision is up to states and counties, not the gov't |
|
If they still decide to be hard-asses about it and want to use electronic machines to vote, then the only software that should be on those damn machines should be open-source software that's audited with a paper-trail for permanent record.

6. I agree, the electronic voting must be verifiable and goof proofed. |
|
If the Repugs had any decency at all, they would have fixed this immediatly, when there were problems in 2000 - but they WON'T. (they aren't decent) Elections in this country MUST be overhauled. Voting should be transparent and results rock solid. This is an issue that we should start immediately. I would love to hear their reasons for NOT doing this.

7. Here, here. And it'll prove it wasn't just complaining. |

This should have been the number one priority of the majority party when the Republicans held the title. Perhaps now, America will understand which party actually values and wishes to protect the most fundamental of democratic freedoms.
