OK, who here honestly thought we would get the House AND Senate? |
|
I've got to confess, I didn't. I thought we'd get the House, but didn't think-- in my heart of hearts-- we'd get both. What about you?
(Yes, I KNOW Montana and Va.haven't been called yet, but it looks damned good)

I didn't believe we'd get the Senate. I think it's 90% in our favor of winning it. Feels damn good.

5. I was too afraid to hope for both |
|
I didn't want to feel the crushing depression I felt in 2004, so I tried to just maintain a "slight hope" that we would get the House back. But I never realized just how good it would be to be in this place today and I'm REALLY happy it wasn't like 2004. (or 2000 for that matter. God that was awful!)

I was confident that we'd take the House, but I did not think that we'd pull off the Senate. Now? I believe we're going to eek that out as well, if only by one seat.
Great news!

Charlie Cook and Stu Rothenberg said we had a VERY good chance to win both. Rothenberg was almost positive we'd win the Senate and HE WAS RIGHT!
Rothenberg said all along that if an incumbent is running numbers under 50% late in a race...they will lose and HE WAS RIGHT!
:rofl: HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN!

I forgot the pundit, but they said that if RI rejects Chafee, the Senate will probably go Dem.

18. I honestly thought we'd lose both |
|
After 1994, 1998, 2000, 2002 (in Georgia), and 2004, my fear was the juggernaut of corruption, disenfranchisement, election theft, and war crimes was just too big to get past, considering the stakes for Bush. Call it political PTSD.
I am OVERJOYED to be proven wrong on this count! This is the best tasting crow I've ever eaten!!
I was gutwrenchingly nervous all night and was moved to tears as returns came rolling in. I'm still nervous that somehow this clear expression of the people, this rejection of all things Bush, will somehow disappear via unforeseen dirty tricks. I walk around in a daze today. But it will pass, the truth will sink in: WE WON!!!

I was of the opinion that the GOP would steal it, no matter what the polls said. That they just couldn't afford to lose this one.

we had a good chance to get both houses, though when I said that to the cautious, beaten-down liberal realists I know they smiled indulgently and could not agree. It's understandable after what we have been through that many would not risk optimism.
I have some insights into VA politics and knew it would be close (and Repuglican vote suppression would be attempted, as it's a tradition there) but I also felt Webb had an excellent chance if any candidate did, and would draw strong support from the military. And it is not only Northern VA that voted Webb--there was substantial support around the state. If it can happen in VA it can happen anywhere. So my hunches were based on that.
