3. You sure
Because I think the Dems have being giving their "poker face" when it comes to impeachment. Besides, Chairman Conyers has never needed permission from the party leadership to do what is right

5. Yes but Conyers is smart
I think he'll investigate first - open investigations and see what shakes loose - so that impeachment is driven by the investigations not by partisan oneupsmanship.

I suspect he's ready to go whenever we can convince SPEAKER PELOSI!!!! It is the right thing to do or this country will not heal.

12. Exactly
When Conyers and Waxman start telling the country what we all recognize as truth, the truth will lead public opinion as to what is the correct next move.

14. Can you really impeach them both? At once?
Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 10:13 AM by TallahasseeGrannie
I would think first Bush, and then Cheney who would appoint a new VP before it was all over?

No way is Hilary Clinton going to let another woman be the first woman President of the United States!

16. cant get this thought out of my mind..i really think this is going to happen
and although i hate to admit it...at this point in time, its the only way a woman could be president...appointed after the indictments and impeachment...and then possibly elected...i have a strong instinct that this is the way its gonna go down...thanks for reaffirming helderheid...

13. Well here it is
the DU topic of the next few years. Impeach or not.

Personally, I just can't quite weigh in. On a gut level I think it would be distracting and get in the way of getting things back to where they ought to be. However, I don't know enough about Constitutional law to know whether Bush has, indeed, broken it or just pushed the envelope. I'll have to leave that up to the experts.

15. Pelosi has Bush by his stuffed sock--if he threatens a veto of Dem
legislative agenda, she trumps with supporting Conyers for impeachment

17. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that take a two-thirds majority?

Unless I'm wrong about that, an impeachment attempt would achieve exactly as much as the Democratic leadership marching on Capitol Hill waving banners reading "don't vote for us in 2008". If you think the GOP are going to break ranks to impeach Bush, you can't have been watching them for the last decade.

19. Not. Going. To. Happen.
Pelosi, Emmanuel, others have all made clear that impeachment is not on their agenda. There will be oversight hearings, but they have been quite consistent in the message that they are focused on looking forward, not backward. They understand the politics of this far better than those who are clamoring for impeachment and imagining that somehow both chimpy and cheney are forced from office in the next two years. Not gonna happen.

And, no,Congress is not "obligated" to commence an impeachment proceeding. The hard cold reality is that impeachment is a political tool. Should it be? Probably not. But it doesn't matter. What matters is what is. And the Demcoratic leadership is not going to pursue an impeachment agenda that will energize the repub base and alienate moderate voters who are sick of the highly partisan approach that the repubs have jammed down everyone's throats the past dozen years).
