Widespread Incidents of Voter Suppression in Virginia
Virginia State Board of Elections Secretary Finds Widespread Incidents of Voter Suppression
Submitted by davidswanson on Tue, 2006-11-07 00:39. Elections

The American Chronicle

Threats of incarceration, changed polling locations, and fliers to "Skip the Election."

Over the past several days, voters throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia have filed complaints of incidents aimed at suppressing voter turn out in heavily Democratic and African American neighborhoods. Today, the Secretary of the Virginia State Board of Elections Jean Jensen concluded that the incidents appear widespread and deliberate.

"There are now credible reports from multiple jurisdictions around the Commonwealth that establish a pattern of dirty tricks being employed to confuse and frustrate Virginia's voters from exercising their right to vote tomorrow. In addition to reports that have been received by the Democratic Party of Virginia, these local election officials have been receiving reports from concerned voters," said Jack Young, co-chair of Promote the Vote.

2. I hope they find out who did all of this in VA.
They ought to pay a heavy price. The VA election results are razor thin, and if just a few thousand voters were prevented from voting because of these campaigns, then they should spend time behind iron bars.

4. I wonder...
Seems if Allen was using voter intimidation techniques...that this only works if he straight out wins (which it certainly looks like he didn't). In other words, if he won, it would be a lot easier to 'squash' the investigations...

So, if he does the recount, and attention is heavily paid to the Virginia election, I think more & more of the voter intimidation will be brought up, which would be VERY bad for Allen...

I wonder if he'll concede rather than face this????

5. FBI Investigating Voter Intimidation In Virginia
FBI Investigating Voter Intimidation In Virginia

The head of the Virginia Board of Elections, Jean Jensen, tells MSNBC that “the FBI is now investigating allegations of voter intimidation and voter suppression.” State officials have documented “dozens of phone calls that were made to heavily Democratic precincts in which the people who were receiving the calls were either given incorrect information about polling sites misdirected about election laws.” Watch it:

6. Between this stuff and the exit poll disparity, it looks like Team Macaca tried to steal
And got thrown out.

The exit polls had Webb winning 52/47.

BTW, as noted elsewhere, these polls corresponded with the results in most of the Democratic wins, so the exit polling looks accurate.

7. I hope Allen goes to jail for this
of course I want Webb to win in his own right and I think he did. But I would be happy with Governor Kaine appointing him to replace an incarcerated racist who got caught suppressing the black vote.

8. Follow the money -- link from Allen campaign to KITV calls.

...from dkos:

According to a story posted at ePluribus Media, the spate of phony calls placed to VA voters under investigation by the FBI, strongly suggests the campaign of Sen. George Allen may be involved.

Allen's campaign manager, Chris LaCivita is a former lobbyist for the DCI Group, a public affairs firm with a long history of phone jamming and push-polling. LaCivita has denied any involvement.

However, Friends of George Allen, the senator's principal campaign committee has made several payments to emotive, LLC, a firm whose Director of Creative Strategy is another former DCI Group employee, with connections to TSE Enterprises and GOP-only web firm New Media Communications.
