87% of Jews voted Democratic.
And, I just heard on NPR that Hispanics voted 73% Democratic. So, much for Repug efforts to disguise themselves as "friends" of the Jews and Hispanics.

http://web.israelinsider.com/Articles/Politics/9818.htm

American Jews expressed flagrant support for Democratic candidates for Congress, contributing to a turnaround in the House of Representatives. According to a CNN sampling of voters, 87 percent of Jewish voters voted Democrat.

This was the highest percentage of support for Democrats since the Republicans took over Congress in 1994.

The Republican Party tried to frighten Jewish voters during the election campaign, primarily with their ads in Jewish newspapers, but no one was buying.

In this election, Jews voted for candidates they thought would be good for Israel, but not necessarily the ones who would be the best for Israel, said Steve Rabinovich, an elections expert who served in the White House during the Clinton era.

Jews didn't vote for anti-Israeli candidates, but also didn't ignore other issues important to them: the war in Iraq, the economy, immigration, the environment and abortion, he explained.

20. The Republicans who support Israel would eagerly cut social security for Jewish grandmothers.
I'm Jewish and I have voted for Democrats since 1972.

Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 10:30 AM by Spider Jerusalem
definitely turned the tide against the Republicans with Hispanics (one Hispanic activist in Arizona said "they have awakened a giant" in reference to the mobilisation of the Hispanic vote against the GOP).

And I'm not at all surprised by the Jewish vote; most American Jews tend to have a fairly strong sense of social justice that doesn't jibe with the social Darwinism and xenophobia of the current Republican party at all.

7. In the Los Angeles area, only 1 in 5 registered Hispanics were projected to vote.
Can you imagine the sweeping changes in California politics if they would just vote?

if you are from the same denomination as the Chimp, does that make YOU responsible for his bloody deeds?

10. The Democratic Big Tent finally coalesces to achieve victory
Too bad for the Repigs evangelicals, bigots, and businessmen didn't seem to agree this time. Bwahahaha! Yesterday, I didn't even care if conservative Democrats came in with liberal ones. We HAD to win this election, and it seems that the infighting stopped and the Democratic Big Tent finally won for us--and how. (I didn't even really mind that Holy Joe won! But if he switches, I'm bringing out the pitchfork!)

16. No.
It appears to have split 60% Lieberman 40% Lamont. Of course, that also means no Jews voted for the Republican candidate.

23. Exactly. The neo-cons are finished.
Maybe they can go spend some time with the Christian fundies? Dobson, Falwell, Robertson, and their ilk could use some company. Americans have SPOKEN! We DO NOT want a theocracy or a hegemonic government!
