It is the Senate that approves who gets to replace a vacant seat on the Supreme Court. Justice Stevens is how old? 85? If he retired with a pro-Bush Senate still in power, who would Bush replace him with?

1. But even at what we gained
We have enough to block an undesirable candidate.
We have to be thankful for small things sometimes.

2. I haven't forgotten for a single second... C'mon Tester & Webb...
Make sure the votes cast for you are counted for you! And, Webb - please deal in a very serious way with the voter disenfranchisement in VA.

3. Last I saw they were predicting 49 - 49
Which I assume means there are 2 independents. Do you know if Lieberman is one of those? Who is the other? With 2 independents, 49-49 may be good enough.

Although I am disappointed Lieberman won, I remember an explanation one of the California Congress critters wrote about why she was supporting him, and apparently he is still good on many issues...

8. Yes. Those totals include the Independents..Lieberman and Sanders from Vermont.
They BOTH will causus with the Democrats...at least Lieberman SAYS he will caucus with the Democrats. Who knows what the man will do next?

4. Not Exactly...
It still comes down to a vote, with the repubs needing to get to 50 plus VP Dickhead.

Even a single Democrat/Independent defector would switch that one.

But our chances have greatly improved. It's just not quite bulletproof, unless we can hold the 49+2 together 100%.

9. I am not sure, but if that's the case Bernie Sanders could filibuster for us
Either he or someone else could filibuster.

14. Just before the election, someone had posted Stevens was ill
and not doing too well. As far as I know, we haven't seen an update and it was apparently not as important as Brittney's divorce for the news to mention (which is probably a good thing in this case).

So, I hadn't forgotten. I was just hoping a whole bunch of R-voters had. :)
