That would be like saying that what the Repugs pulled back in 2000 was OK.

I respect candidates efforts to ensure that every vote is counted.

I wish Kerry and Edwards had been able/willing to do more about fraud and theft in 2004 (we had 4 years to prepare ourselves for the various vote-stealing tactics employed in that election).

If the law says he can ask for a recount, then let him ask for a recount.

I say go for it. All the fraud was on the part of Allen and the Governor and SOS are Dems so he won't be able to pull any shenanigans in a closely supervised recount.

Let's look very closely at this race. I predict Webb will increase his lead and STILL win AND we may even find more evidence of fraud on Allen's part, and when/if we do, we should go forward w/ prosecutions.

43. Fortunately...
The Secretary of State is a Democrat...

In last years Attorney General Race the Republican won on election night by a few hundred votes...the Democrat challended, and the recount occurred. The Republican lead held up.

We are talking about 8000 now, probably 10000 by the time provisional ballots are counted...

Unless there was a MAJOR counting snafu in multiple jurisdictions it seems like an uphill battle for Allen!

Recount it by all means. I don't want Webb to enter the senate with ANY doubts over his election. But if this happens, we better make damn sure we have observers and lawyers in every single recount site, with recording equipment if VA law permits it.

There are only two reasons why Felix could want a recount.
1. He is in the state of denial.
2. They're planning to commit further fraud during the recount.

If they contest, bring in the army -- the army of election protection officials.

61. first order of business . . .
. . . celebrate the wins (projected or too close) immediately. Every elected Democratic politician should declare victory in the House and Senate and every seat in contention *today*.

If you leave this up in the air they will take it from us. We must convince the nation that we've won this so that their bullshit comes off as being sore losers and trying to steal elections. The American people don't trust voting under a GOP-controlled government nor should they and if we're going to keep these wins we have to make America understand that we've won the House and the Senate.

64. In All Fairness Allen Was Not Against The Florida Recount.
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0012/16/cg.00.html

ALLEN: Well, maybe. I also have a great deal of respect for Supreme Courts. I have a great deal of respect for the Supreme Court justices on the Virginia Supreme Court. And so, I think you have judges -- there were close decisions in Florida, close decision on the Supreme Court of the United States. A recount was had, the Florida Supreme Court extended the amount that they could have those hand recounts in Florida.

And again, rather than getting all too upset with some of the U.S. Supreme Court decisions, look at Miami-Dade County. Democrats said no, we can't get these ballots counted before this time. There's just too many of them and they didn't do it. If I were a Democrat I'd be livid by such dilatory approaches and then for Palm Beach County, they didn't want to work on Thanksgiving to go through those ballots whereas other counties, Broward and Volusia and others, got the job done.

So it's not something that I think is a high moment for the way to win an election. You like the people and clearly the votes making those decisions, but ultimately those decisions are being made by the courts and the highest court in the land does have a great deal of credibility.

SHIELDS: Justice Carlson.

CARLSON: Now, the Florida legislature, though, did provide for hand counts. So, there it is, right in the law.

NOVAK: Not in the presidential election.

(CROSSTALK)

ALLEN: I wasn't saying I minded the hand count.

Now, he wasn't against the recount but he did seem to indicate that he agreed with the time limitation. I say give'em a week to do the recount then cut his ass off.

Jay

Unless GeorgieBoy knows something the rest of the country doesn't he's toast - burnt toast at that. The DNC has to spend whatever they have to in order to make sure the recount is fair - the stakes are too high to skimp now.

72. The RNC mobil homes and the Brooks Bros rioters are on their way!!
If everyone thinks this will not be another filthy show by the RNC, then you're naive. They are assembling millions to work this recount to keep the Senate. It will not be a recount of normal standards.. there will be lawsuits, tricks, threats, press conferences, and all of the dirty tricks. WaaaaAllen is being instructed to do this, it's the RNC's last battleground of the election, and they are assembling in Virginia as we speak. EXPECT dirty tricks, law suits, challenges, and everything. WaaaaaAllen knows that the lead is really insurmountable.. UNLESS... the repubs work their magic. Let's see... lots of military ballots expected soon... so I'd say that will be their first battleground. We should expect a press conference any moment accusing the Dems of not honoring the troops by wanting to end this contest before their ballots arrive. Counting down... 10.. 9.. 8...

79. He should. Elections are about the people, not the candidates.
And if this is what it takes for the Republicans to finally grasp that, let him call for a recount. Maybe the Republicans will have a better understanding of the word "democracy" if one of their own actually has to attempt it.

I trust the results in Virginia. I've got no problem with double-checking to make sure that the vote of the people is accurately recorded. Unlike Warner and the Republicans, I had that position in 2000 in Florida, as well. Maybe now they can grasp what we were talking about.

Just my thoughts. I'm too relieved to care about getting revenge. I just want to get on with eradicating the evils of BushCo from this nation.

You have to look backwards to taunt someone behind you, and I do not plan to look back.

80. I say bring it on
Webb has nothing to hide and Macaca still has to answer for the voter intimidation.

Besides, after the mail-in votes are counted, there'll be an even BIGGER lead, thus putting an end to all doubt.

102. Counting all the votes in Virginia will do "irreparable harm" to
James Webb...

The Bush Propaganda Machine Strikes Again in Florida
Bob Fertik

Snip...

The Florida Supreme Court did two things: first, they ordered Harris to include the partial recounts in Miami-Dade and Palm Beach, which added 383 votes to Gore's total and reduced Bush's lead to 154. Then they ordered all of Florida's counties to start counting. And as the nation watched, election workers in all of Florida's counties began reviewing every uncounted vote.

This was the moment when the U.S. Supreme Court threw a thunderbolt from the sky. Violating every principle of Anglo-American law, a narrow partisan Republican majority declared that a fair and accurate recount would cause "irreparable harm" to George W. Bush. They overruled the Florida Supreme Court and ordered a halt to Florida's recount. As the nation watched in shock, election workers throughout Florida stopped counting and went home.

This injunction by the U.S. Supreme Court has been universally denounced. A group of law professors from across the country - now numbering 637 - ran an ad in the New York Times declaring: "By stopping the vote count in Florida, the U.S. Supreme Court used its power to act as political partisans, not as judges of a court of law."

Two days later, the U.S. Supreme Court issued its final ruling in Bush v. Gore. Once again, a narrow Republican majority ruled in favor of Bush. Many judicial scholars believe this was the Supreme Court's most lawless and outrageous ruling since Plessy v. Ferguson. MORE...

Of course that decision flies in the face of all SCOTUS rulings ever, and the point of them in fact. But hey what goes around... Payback's a bitch!
