Wow!! I've Been SO FUCKING ANGRY AND TENSE FOR SIX YEARS!!!!!!!
It's amazing how you don't even realize it until it goes away, or at least mitigates.

Man, this morning it's like a fist-clenched-knot that his been in my gut for six years has just loosened. I had forgotten how I should normally feel. I feel better than I've felt for a long time.

Things are getting better, now let's really get to work.

8. I've been smiling subconsciously all day.
I noticed when I was walking to class this morning.

Then, when I went to one of the academic buildings to pick up a copy of the NYT for posterity, I came face-to-face with this nasty bitch from College Republicans. Our eyes met for a split second, and I know my smile got a bit wider. Then I ducked my head and kept walking.

It feels good. :)

we need to make sure they get rid of these awful machines and go back to pen and paper ballots.

Optical scanners should only be used if they have open source programming. NO MORE DIEBOLD crap.

17. I'm thinking back...
I wasn't as depressed in 2000 as I was in 2004 since I now KNEW what a Bush victory meant. 2004 was like a nightmare. The feeling was like the pain of a breakup combined with the knowledge that it isn't just sucking for you, it's sucking for the country. It was some harsh doldrums, that time. And I remember my fury at Bush calling a squeaker a mandate. "Wow, I won by a larger number of votes than any election in history!!" Yeah, only because we have more people in this country than ever before. Asshole.

But now....TREES ARE HAPPY! BIRDS SINGING!! It is a complete inversion of how I felt before. I feel like doing a snoopy dance in front of our company's lobbyist, a GOP operative who used to work up in DC with the party bigwigs. I won't because I'm white and have no coordination but man, I feel like doing it. HA!

Happy happy joy joy happy happy joy joy.

40. About That 2004 Mandate
2004 was terrible wasn't it?

Some acquaintances of the GOP persuasion brought that up to me; as nicely as I could, I said, "Let's put that in numbers that are easy to understand. Say you have one hundred people voting on something - 51% are for it and 49% are against it - that means only TWO more people are on the winning side - does that seem like a mandate to you?"

Only response from them - stunned silence - sometimes it helps to give them little numbers.

29. It's like December 2000 finally ended.
Isn't it nice!

I just got off the phone with several people I know. We all feel the same about it. As though a weight has been lifted off.

That was rough. A long long wait.

And all along, I have said that Bush was the cause of great waste. Just the time involved in this forum, to get him out, was huge. But the energy wasted, and the health declines that people have experienced. And I'll even go as far as to say the increase in crime.

Phew. Glad it's over.

Oh yeah, like I just said to someone- even if we were doing nothing, we'd be doing better than what Bush was doing.

My old father is still pretty pissed off about how few people turned out to vote. And how close it was. And that turnout was pretty high. Pathetic.

We're all lighter today.

50. Longer for me.

I was always irritated (but didn't hate) for the entire Reagan presidency. There were a few people from that era that I hated... Ollie North, James Watt, others. But I started hating all republicans (and swearing to do anything in my power to see them thrown down) on a specific date. November 14, 1995. The day the repuke congress forced a government shutdown on Bill Clinton. And I've hated every repuke, from monkey boy down to the local dog catcher, ever since.

And this victory is just the start. I will continue to hate them all until they have NO power and no ability to influence the United States with their lies and their fear mongering.

It is amazing how much tension was there and I didn't realize it until it was gone. Mentally I feel like there is more energy too to devote to put-off projects etc. It's really is a physical release and I didn't expect it. Emotionally I think it's all just hitting me. I think I still need a good cry to get it all out. ;)

72. I have been suffering from chronic back pain for months.
Yesterday was the first morning I have woken up and had the full range of movement in my back in a long time. Today, I felt great again. It had not struck me that the stress of Republican control could be the cause of my back problems, until I saw this thread. How funny.

73. Yesterday people were so nice all day, everywhere.
It was easier to start up a conversation it was easier for it to be a good one. I met more people yesterday than in the past month it felt like. It just feels so great to not have it festering in the back of my head that both houses of Congress are Republican... you're right, it's like waking up. It's like waking up after being sick and realizing you had the 24-hour flu.

76. Me too. I'm fucking exhausted.
On my way home from work Monday, I got this feeling. Not quite realizing what it was, had to think about it for a minute. The feeling?

Hope.

82. i'm standing up straighter--head up, shoulders back. i noticed that
on thursday.

happier in general.

feeling hope for the first time in so long.

it didn't quite hit me on wednesday--still had the crushing memory of 2000 & 2004 (especially 2004 when hope ran so high and was pulled out from under us).

it took me until thursday to convince myself they can't take this away from us. it's done. it's okay. things will be okay now.

it was after that realization that i noticed my posture improved--more energy--feeling more uplifted

NOW IS OUR CHANCE TO KILL OFF THESE FUCKING MACHINES FOR GOOD!
