Senate Switchers and Balance of Power |
|
Since the Senate is so close, the balance of power there will be in the hands of one switcher or another at any given time. Party discipline can probably be held on key judgeship votes and Bolton's re-nom for UN, but the Senate will be hard to manage for everything else.
If it is 50-50, then Lieberman may be able to give Cheney the day off from time to time. Any Republicans interested in doing a switch to Independent or Democratic, like Jeffers did in 2000?
If it is 51-49 for Dems, then any Democrat can hold their leadership for hostage on one issue or another.
