3. My first thought was that this was a ploy to appoint Joe Lieberman...
..as the new Secretary of Defense like they were speculating about a few months ago. Then Connecticut Governor Jodi Rell (R) would appoint a true Republican replacement to fill Lieberman's senate seat.

I guess that was just a moment of inspired paranoia. Glad that is all it was. :)
