Perhaps she pressured him or she will do something embarrassing to him now that she can and one thing these type of people like Bush hate is to appear as a loser.

3. That's an interesting take on the subject Bullwinkle |
|
I feel o.k. with it, as long as Madam Speaker said SPECIFICALLY impeachment. As long as she said nothing about investigations and indictments, then I'm good.

5. Pelosi doesn't have the power to trade... |
|
...Impeachment for anything. It's the Judiciary Committee (Conyers) who will have to investigate and I can't imagine there is anything she can give Conyers to stop him from at least looking into it.

I think the handwriting was on the wall and Don didn't want to deal with the inevitable storm coming.
I'm sure that he got a call from the administration that it was time to fall on his sword for the little dictator Bush.
The administration knows that it is now under fire and they are playing defense.

9. No. Impeachment proceedings would waste capital and she knows it. |
|
Impeachment of Bush would be a waste of time and political capital. It would go nowhere, just like impeachment of Clinton went nowhere and wasted time. Pelosi is smart enough to know this as of May this year.

10. Maybe Pelosi wanted Rummy's head delivered in exchange for no impeachment |
|
I would rather have investigations on the war profiteering and accountability beforehand.
Then if we dig up more solid evidence evidence we can let the proper committees take action.

... then she's doing her job. While we might impeach the bastages we can't get a conviction through the senate to finish the job. At least not until investigation after investigation turns up scandal after scandal. Impeachment right off the bat is tilting at windmills. We might be able to pull it off before his term ends as all the repubs jump ship to distance themselves from his administration, but not right away, and that is a big if considering how willing to lockstep the repubs have been.
By the time we could build the public case for impeachment with conviction and make it fly Rummy would have done immeasureable damage to us and the Iraq civilians.
Just pray the deal, if it exists, named a competent successor.
