16. Exactly and that
is a point we need to make every single day. We knew then that they would be back, some of them more than once. They need to pay with their loss of freedom so the lesson is learned.

30. They framed it as "being bad for the country" to go after
a sitting President for criminal activity.

Silly me - I thought jailing a criminal President would be a good thing for America.

Sorta sends a message to other wanna-be criminal Presidents, you know?

I still haven't figured out how sending a criminal to prison hurts America.

could have actually been viewed as a security risk if it went away. Too bad, but our government needs a major retro-fit.

117. I know and I've been speaking out against that thinking even
before it began - because I knew it was coming.

Bipartisanship doesn't mean allowing criminals, more especially war criminals, to walk free.

How anyone in America can entertain the notion that letting war criminals walk free "heals" America is beyond me.

Now we know the true consequences of "going easy" on Iran Contra

Had the Dems (who DID control both houses of congress) pressed harder, and not contented themselves with the idea that GHWB (the wimp) would be easygoing, and inconsequential...well things would be very different now.,

Had Reagan/Bush gotten their just desserts for Iran Contra, and all the dirt been exposed, they would have left office, fully disgraced..GHWB probably would not have even gotten elected..Carter would be held in higher esteem...and There's no way in HELL that *² would have gotten appointed to the white house

The appointments to the SCOTUS that were made by GHWB would have been made by a democrat..Kennedy..Souter..Thomas would not be on the bench, and we would not be facing a right wing court for the foreseeable future.

The democratic party has always hated "piling on", and has been ready to "forgive and forget".

Look at all the key players in this administration.. Almost all of them have their roots in the Iran Contra Days, Grenada, Panama, and many other republican schemes.

We do ourselves and the country a great disservice when we let the "bad guys" off with a slap on the wrist.

republicans have no shame.. they wear their crimes like badges of honor..and like the energizer bunnies, they just keep on coming back..

This is why we cannot let Rove off the hook, and strong language and actions are necessary..

The only thing that republicans DO understand is PUBLIC HUMILIATION, and jail terms.

If you DO wrong, you need to be punished..not just turned out of office to go lick your wounds until next time :grr:

98. You speak the honest truth here. And, if one goes back to Nixon it's so
Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 08:28 PM by KoKo01
easy to see that if Dems had pressed harder...the course of History would be far different than it has been. Many of us would not have lived in hell since Selection 2000 and in fact "Selection 2000" wouldn't have been possible.

Any Dem who says: "We don't want to go back to the past mistakes that were made...because we want to focus on the future and how to get out of the mess of past mistakes" is IMMEDIATELY SUSPECT in my book. I lived through all the "cover ups" and "make nice" and "Move On" philospophy from my Democratic Party! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Time to hold FEET TO FIRE.

I'm not in favor of "Impeachment" for that second Loser Bush...I want him held accountable during his last two years and AFTER he LEAVES for WAR CRIMES/TORTURE and SHREDDING OF OUR CONSTITUTION! There can be NO STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS WHEN IT COMES TO THIS CRIME FAMILY and those in BOTH Poppy and Bush II's Administrations. But, if I had to pick....I'd go with Bush II and the CULMINATION OF ALL OF IT. The BUCK STOPS THERE. TRY THEM...and let it GO WHERE IT SHOULD...

Sorry for "Full Cap Shouting"....frustration!

They wouldn't consider retiring or "spending time with the family". They are having too much fun screwing people and arrograntly strutting their "smarts" and getting the sheeple to follow.

Edit: Let the investigations begin so we can keep them busy and out of trouble. Those arrogant bastards hate it when you put them under oath, and they gotta hire all those attorneys, and spend all their time trying to find all those scraps of paper that could indict them. Sounds like fun huh?

81. When? When we work hard at letting them know.

By "we", I don't mean that you and I have a lot of power in the media. But, we need to put our heads together to formulate ways to get this info out. Let's plan!

One thing I'm doing is that I found the info about the movie "The Trials Of Henry Kissinger" in our library, and have been suggesting it to all those who are new to this. Also, "The Plot To Overthrow FDR" (which I got my library to order a couple of years ago) because that is important history to know about in terms of understanding the roots of all this. The point is NOT for *us* to watch these (except to sharpen our historical knowledge) but to get others to understand.

Yes, the election was great--now the work of education begins.

Thanks for bringing this up!

19. Gates cooked Casey's false testimony
From the URL cited by the original poster:

Gates and Casey's November 1986 Testimony: The events leading up to the preparation of false testimony by Director Casey in November 1986 -- preparations that Gates nominally oversaw -- are set forth in a separate chapter of this Report. There was insufficient evidence that Gates committed a crime as he participated in the preparation of Casey's testimony, or that he was aware of critical facts indicating that some of the statements by Casey and others were false.

51. Senate comes back on the 9th for procedural stuff
http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?dbname=senate_calendar&docid=sc001

They could elect to vote on confirmation, I suppose. But I doubt it.

Or Bush could grant a recess appointment during the holidays.

We'll see

the 110th Congress, 1st session, begins in January. We are on the 109th Congress, 2nd session.

53. From your link, Solly, the connection to Ghorbanifar and what do we know
recently about Manucher Ghorbanifar and his involvement with Chalibi and Iraq Invasion and forged Niger Documents, and Michael Ledeen? This is another "Fox in charge of hen house" scenario. And, makes it more possible we will start something with Iran, imho. Aside from the Grand Coverup which will continue. I hope that Dems can intervene in this by not confirming...if they are even given a chance. It will be a test of how far our Dems will go to "clean house" which includes the stuff hidden in the attic and basement that's needs to go.

Allen believed, however, that he sent a memorandum to Gates discussing, among other things, how much money North needed to pay Manucher Ghorbanifar from the Iran initiative. (Memorandum from Allen to the DCI, Subject: American Hostages, 11/10/86, ER 19739; Allen, Grand Jury, 1/4/88, pp. 19-21.) Independent Counsel was unable to corroborate Allen's testimony.

62. More on Gates' role in the 80's
Last January, robertpaulsen started a thread called PLAME = IRAN/CONTRA REDUX. The comments that followed included a link to a page about Danny Casolaro which mentions Gates:
http://www.umsl.edu/~skthoma/khashoggi.htm

On August 5, Casolaro had called Texas oil engineer Bob Bickel, who at one time worked as a Customs Bureau informant, apparently to talk about Robert Booth Nichols and his association with a former Justice official named Michael Abbell and Columbian drug lord Gilberto Rodriquez, both of whom were being investigated for their connections to the Cali drug cartel. Bickel previously had aspired to blow the whistle on CIA chief Robert Gates' role in shipping weapons to Iraq in the late 1980s. He had given Danny photocopies of one million and four million dollar checks drawn on the BCCI accounts of Iran-contra go-betweens Adnan Khashoggi and Manucher Ghorbanifar.

Gates has also been accused of involvement in the October Surprise.

And then there's this, from Robert Parry:
http://www.consortiumnews.com/2003/102203.html

In the first few months of the Reagan administration, the hard-liners’ animosity toward the CIA’s analytical division intensified as it resisted a series of accusations against the Soviet Union. The CIA analysts were obstacles to the administration’s campaign to depict Moscow as responsible for virtually all acts of international terrorism, including the attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II in Rome in 1981.

With William Casey installed as CIA director and also serving in Reagan’s Cabinet, the assault on the analytical division moved into high gear. Casey put the analytical division under the control of his protégé, Robert Gates, who had made his name as an anti-Soviet hard-liner. Gates then installed a new bureaucracy within the DI, or Directorate of Intelligence, with his loyalists in key positions.

“The CIA’s objectivity on the Soviet Union ended abruptly in 1981, when Casey became the DCI – and the first one to be a member of the president’s Cabinet. Gates became Casey’s deputy director for intelligence in 1982 and chaired the National Intelligence Council,” wrote former CIA senior analyst Melvyn Goodman.

Since it was the Michael Ledeen/Dewey Clarridge wing of things that was pushing the idea that the Soviet Union was the source of all terrorism, these three points seems to line Gates up very closely with them and Ghorbanifar.

And that, as you say, is not a good sign.

90. Gates is "Dirty" .....but then what else could we expect "Poppy/Baker"
to foist on us when the "Little Spawn" is in deep, dark doo doo.

It just goes on and on....and then...there's Kissinger.....:banghead: and our "seemingly innocent media" who allows "evil spawn of Bush I" to put out Robert Gates name to replace Rummy figuring their "paid for whoring media" will never QUESTION IT! Like the Reporters for MSM don't have access to GOOGLE! or are Brain Dead or PAID so many $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$'s for houses in the Hamptons or Nantucket that they will NEVER QUESTION???

Well...those of us who've been around the bend a few times know that corporate media will NEVER QUESTION... so my Q&A about this is Moot...I guess. :-(

93. He's blocked by many in his own party on this - I think he should say FULL SPEED AHEAD
and let the chips fall where they may.

Certain Dems want it all to go away - starting with the one who had the power but chose to continue the coverup. Clinton showed his colors when he never even ONCE mentioned BCCI in his book, even though there were 20 outstanding matters that needed further investigation when he took office.

Another freakin republicon traitor.

They give sophisticated weapons systems to our enemies.

And now they want to send our sons and daughters to fight the guys they gave our weapons, too?

Why are the republicons so against the USA?

Do they want our sons and daughters in uniform to be killed with our weapons (so their munitions cronies can make mega profits)?

That's their goal. Save Shrub and prevent the whole truth from coming out. Because if Shrub goes down (tried for crimes), they risk being exposed too.

Gates is about saving Bush Family face as well as perpetuating the myth that iraq being a disaster was the fault of strategy(Rumsfeld)...and not the fact that we should not have invaded period.

Shrub's ass will be protected as much as possible by Gates and Baker...

99. Questions it would be nice to see Gates asked
http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Iraq/Saddam's_Hidden_History.html

In 1982, the Reagan administration, though officially neutral, began to fear an Iranian victory. In a 1995 affidavit in a federal criminal court case, Howard Teicher, a one-time member of Reagan's National Security Council staff, said that in 1982 he helped draft a secret National Security Decision Directive, signed by Reagan, to provide covert support to Iraq.

Teicher wrote, "The CIA, including both CIA Director Casey and Deputy Director Gates, knew of, approved of and assisted in the sale of non-U.S.-origin military weapons, ammunition and vehicles to Iraq." The Reagan administration also began providing Saddam Hussein's military with satellite photos of the battlefield and dual-use technology that Iraq used to build chemical and biological weapons. And the Reagan administration allowed Iraq to buy computer software that Saddam could use to track political opponents.

At a Senate hearing on September 19, 2002, Sen. Robert C. Byrd (D-W.V.) asked Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld: "Did the United States help Iraq to acquire the building blocks of biological weapons during the Iran-lraq war? Are we in fact, now facing the possibility of reaping what we have sown?" Rumsfeld, who was Reagan's special envoy to the Middle East in 1983 and 1984 and who met personally with Saddam on December 20, 1983, replied that he had "no knowledge" of such U.S. assistance. Was that a lie?

I think Gates signals that we are leaving Iraq...but then Baker really signaled that didn't he? A search of my threads will show I said months ago Bush was looking for a way out and Baker being part of the Iraqi group was part of that way out. Gates was/is a part of the Iraqi group as well. Imagine that. lolol

I know Poppy is out to save Shrub's ass. I know saving Shrub's ass includes telling any lie necessary to make Iraq look better so America can start to pull out

But Gates isn't a good thing. He's here to cover up.

Gates job IS to manufacture a reality. The manufactured reality that Rumsfeld and others were the only problems with Iraq and not Shrub's actions. This is the Cover Shrubs Ass play.

And it IS making up a reality. It IS creating a reality.

Because the truth is, Shrub is a war criminal and any reality that denies that is a lie. :)

116. When Iran-Contra hit we didn't have all these wonderful assets
ie. P.C.s and the internet. This time millions of people knew who Gates was before he ever got to be mentioned. The surprise is seeming to be that Big brother works both ways. We should not be afraid to utilize it to neutralize the criminals that have been put on the lam like Gates.

Criminal often fail to see the big picture and we have a glimpse that this is another one of those times
